I recommend the dirty job of changing swimming pool liners. My brother owns Southern Leisure Pools in Mobile, Alabama. He encounters green slime, red clay, old murcky nasty water. Sweltering heat especially from July-September. Please email me if you want to know more. He said to tell you it smells like Doo Doo. LOL.

In Mobile is the museum made of the WWII Battleship USS Alabama. The Rangers and Maintenance crew of this Battleship must have some behind-the-scenes jobs that are very dirty:
Keeping a 50 year old ship clean has to be a dirty job.
Maybe we could see Mike climbing into one of the big gun barrels.

Sorry, I don't have specific job titles.

I am notsure if you have done this in a previous show or not..I saw the shoe on the guy that trims cow hooves but do not recall if you did one on horses.

Shoeing and trimming horses can be a pretty dirty job..more so than cattle. Not only do they get manure in their hooves but a very common bacteria called thrush. It is a black tarry bacteria that smell worse than crap and the smell does not wash off very easy. In addition when you burn the hoof with the hot shoe it smell like burnt hair which the smell absorbs in your cloths as well.

Not to mention the risk of being bitten, kicked, stepped on, sore back, nails driven in your hand and cut with the hoof knife.... Not dirty enough for you?? How about adding the heat and humidity to the mix and you will have a day of exhausting nasty work.

I live and work in Greenville, Alabama at a company called Koch Foods. I am employed there as a maintenance man. The company I work for is the hatchery branch for baby chickens. On the job, it is not unusal for me to be covered in chicken feathers and much worse. Jobs there consist of pulling birds out of the hatchers into the rooms where they separate them from the eggs shells that they hatch out of. Some of these eggs never hatch and they eggs are then rotten and sometimes tend to bust when being moved. Not a pleasant sight OR smell, that's for sure! If you're looking for a dirty, smelly place in Alabama, I think Greenville's got what you're looking for!

Compliance tester for the petroleum systems,Tanknology Inc., Based out of Austin Tx. My company does a broad spectrum of work on all petroleum systms ie. Gas stations and I have been in alabama working now for 2 weeks doing what is known as ethanol preperation, for the ethanol blended fuels coming into mainstream america now. It involves basicly doing a tank bottom wash in all the necessary underground tanks at a site. The fun part comes in the fun stuff you get out of the tanks. Nasty sludge, rust and alot of things you wouldn't think of. One time i thought I found a body part when cleaning out my filter but it ended up being part of a rubber ball . It truly is a nasty process . Any hotel I check into I get some pretty weird looks because I smell like a gas pump but I simply reply it is my cologne of choice.

Radio Show Call Screener

This is dirty in the sense of literally dirty, but it is different dirty. I used to work for one of the country's top 12 sport shows "The Paul Finebaum Radio Network". I was the intern and I answered phones for callers who called in for two summers. They have a guy who currently does that now there. his name is Alex. Anyways, because the Talk Show has a "Redneck" appeal, people would call in and basically chew us out for what the host (Paul Finebaum) was saying on the air. People would literally call in and just cuss us out as soon as we answer the phone. Anyways, this would be a great dirty job.

Mike, I grew up in south Georgia riding power lines on four wheelers to go mudding. While riding four wheelers is not a job, someone has to maintain these areas. All of the transmission power lines cross some nasty areas (swamps, creeks, rivers, streams, places that generate lots of mud). They have to get tractors in to mow these areas on a regular basis. They have to drive trucks in to drill holes and put up new poles in these muddy areas. Alabama has the same kind of geography as Georgia and would have the same nasty lines. Areas line Mobile and Dothan Alabama would have these bad areas. Alabama Power would be responsible fore these areas. This could help you in other states you have not visited because every state has miles and miles of power lines to feed our nation. All of these areas must be maintained.

I have a great dirty job for you! We are located in Foley, AL, only five minutes from beautiful Gulf Shores and the beach. We are a utility construction company, we bore underground and lay pipe, then our sister company comes in and shoots fiber optic line through the pipe, then we go back and connect everything. Talk about dirty! You should see and smell these guys at the end of the day! YUK! The company is Gulf Utility Construction and the really cool part is that it is a group of guys who all grew up together (some are even related) that work for the company. The job is really dirty, but they have a lot of fun!

Ok I have one for you. I work in a hospital lab. One section in particular you might find interesting is our micro dept, Mike Rowe. (Ha, ha). It is microbiolgy. This is where we grow all of our little bugs from urine, blood, stool, spinal fluid, etc. yes, we actually play in poop and urine and put it on plates, put it in an incuabtor, go back the next day to see if anything grows! Oh yeah I forgot to mention my favorite, we play with snot too! We look for staph, including MRSA, strep, samonella, e. coli and a host of other bacteria. And this is just a small hospital lab. If you go to a bigger hospital lab you may even get to see a few viruses!
Hope to see you guys in a lab soon!

Deckhand on a Charter Boat
Orange Beach/Gulf Shores, Alabama

Get ready for a slippery, slimy, gut-filled day! Mike, come join me and head out on the Gulf of Mexico for a long day of deep sea fishing. It may sound fun, but it can be dirty. My day starts at 5:00 am and ends at 9:00 pm most days. But at the end of the day, you must ask yourself, what could be better than a day on the water? Here's a little taste of the recreational fishing industry on a charter boat in Alabama.
When I get to the boat, I have to make sure all the rods are ready to go. Along with getting the bait and ice. Ahhh, the bait and the first dirty part to my morning. I must cut up the bonita and squid to use for bait as we head out to the first fishing spot. We have a variety of people join us every day, so teaching someone to bait hooks, reel in fish, and stay standing can be tough.
Think it doesn't sound dirty enough yet, huh? Well, after a long 12 hour day on the water, we get to the "reel" dirty part....And yes, it is cleaning and bagging the fish for the customers. From a 40 pound grouper to a 70 pound amberjack to a 10 pound red snapper, I have caught and cleaned them all, guts and everything. Needless to say, I get a little messy at the end of the day. Imagine that great electric knife you use to cut your turkey. Multiply that times 120 and that's how many days a year I get to get my hands, well actually my whole body, slippery, slimy and gut-filled. Make sure you take some dramamine and stay sober and come join me and my dirty job for a terrific day in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico. No worries and no land in sight. It's great! Hope to see you soon.

General manager, Custom Interiors Mobile, Al Granite countertop fabricator and installer. Fabrication of natural stone from slab form to the beautiful shiney polished countertops is not only tedious it is also a dirty job. There are several dangerous steps involce in this process. Stone slabs are large, heavy, fragile and extremely dusty when cut. Yet it produces and clean, durable product. There are a lot of cutting equipment and polishing tools requiring wet use. I think our operation would be a great place for a dirty jobs episode. So send Mike Rowe and dirty jobs to see me in Semmes, AL at Custom Interiors it will make fore a good show.
Thanks,
Nelson P. Davis

And if it is possible, It would be amazing if I may be a camera man for a day! but you have to accept the job in the first place. so hopefully you will come to my school and be a costodian for a day. and yes I know I can not spell, I am a horrible speller.

Mike will get a kick out of the country folks from this part of the state!! Anyway, it is dirty and you can smell it for 5 miles (10 miles on a hot, humid day when the guts get good and ripe). Please check in to it. The phone number to contact is (256)352-9821.

BINGO !!! This is so weird. I just found out about this place this a.m. around 11:30!!! That's why I'm on the site now to list it as a place for Mike to check out. I was telling a co-worker about the Pig Farm in Las Vegas that Mike went to and that is when the dog food plant was mentioned. I'm in Birmingham. Hope he decides to check it out.

Oh, GOD..... I've been waaaay tooo close to that plant.... I've been in Austin for over 10 years, but I remember that smell..... Someone told me you just grab a handful and rub it under your arms and put some in your pocket and maybe, just maybe you get to where the smell is tolerable..... I don't think so ;(

I live in Oneonta, Alabama and have six chicken houses that hold approximately 19,000 chickens in each house. We keep the chickens for about 9 weeks and weigh about, on average, 6-7 lbs. each. At the end of that 9 weeks, we will "sell" the chickens. A crew, about six men (usually Mexican), will come out and catch the chickens and put them in cages. These men catch, literally, catch the chickens by hand, about 3-4 per hand and put into these cages. Remember, these chickens weigh in at about 6-7 lbs. each, times 19,000, times six houses. That equals to approximately 115,000 chickens in one "sell". Give or take. While they are catching these chickens, they are walking in chicken poo and dodging poo being thrown from the chickens feet as they are running from you. Then, the cages are loaded on a flat-bed truck and taken to the chicken processing plant. This process takes hours. I have seen them do this and it is amazing. I think that this would be a good and dirty segment for the show.amylong30@gmail.com

Well I keep hoping DJ will come to Alabama. Since summer is coming camping season is just around the corner. My son is working at Boy Scout camp all summer. Since I believe I have heard Mike was an Eagle Scout I thought this might be interesting. On Mondays they have an "adventure valley" program which is a big mud course. Very rustic, very dirty and full of very dirty smelly Boy Scouts. The season starts end of May and runs for 6 weeks. It is Camp Sequoah in central Alabama.
