OK the company is called Valley Protiens and they are locating in Winchester Virginia. I worked for them in rose hill north carolina. Not sure on location or phone number i only worked there for 4 hours. and it was over 10 years ago but i know they still exixst. i can smell them when i drive near them. the plant grinds up the mortality from hog and poultry farms. the dead animals. Then they cook them down in to feed products that end up in feed mills. Meat meal. meat and bone meal. blood meal. stuff like that. anyways. it was absolutely DISGUSTING! Hope Mike has a good time Thanks rick quote: Originally posted by DJModChickie: Please post your idea here.
VIRGINIA Please include job title, company/organization, city, etc. Must be a specific job, and not theoretical ("plumber" vs. "pipe fitter, Pipe City Plumbers, Silver Spring, VA"). Virginia ideas only.
Thank you.

Hi. I have a suggestion for a "Dirty Job" for Mike Rowe to tackle.
Sports Mascot.
While the uninitiated might reject this a being too closely affiliated with "show biz," once you dig into this profession the more you discover that it is an under appreciated, almost thankless task that involves strenuous aerobic activity involving hours in a hot, sweaty, bulky, ridiculous furry costume.
The beauty of this job is that it can be practiced in many different states, at many different sporting events. In my years as an assistant to one such mascot, Cosmo the Sheepdog, (http://www.mascotconsulting.com) I would recommend a minor league baseball game as the perfect venue.
An alternative would be going through an organized mascot camp.
If you find this idea interesting, please contact me at h.liu@juno.com and I will be able to provide more details and further contacts related to my "Dirty Job" idea.

Get high and dirty cutting and chipping trees. Currently a huge job working off the Interstate I-81 in an area that was recently caught on fire. End of the day you will no longer be white!
Bonus: Get to play with awesome machines like a huge bucket truck, chipper, stump grinder, and of course chain saws!

Hi Dirty Jobs "Finish the 50" forum for the big VA!
My name is Abby, and I have THE BEST suggestion bar none for the Dirty Jobs in VA. Johnson's Auto Machine Service is an auto maching company specalizing in crankshaft grinding, rebuilding your car motor, and custom work for your motor. Our crankshaft grinders are disgustingly dirty, and they are about due for a cleaning. We are located in Norfolk, VA. Thus, Dirty Jobs producers and Mike Rowe could add "crankshaft grinder cleaner" to his list of dirty jobs. Again, thats Cranshaft Grinder Cleaner for Johnson's Auto Machine Service in Norfolk, VA. You know you're curious, just let us know, we'll keep it dirty.

jbaucsks Junior Member Posted 03-31-08 08:12 PM "We're #1 in the #2 business" is the slogan for TechLab Inc. They are a independent research company based out of Blacksburg, VA (Virginia Tech) that does everything from R&D to Production in the realm of non-invasive intestinal diagnostics. Basically they do research on poop and the viruses that cause diarrhea, consequently they work with 'specimens' all the time. The job would either be Research Scientist or Quality Control Technician.

The men at Harrison Pressure Wash in Colonial Heights, VA have a very dirty job. In fact the company slogan is "WE LIKE 'EM DIRTY." They handle everything from residential to commercial to heavy equipment. Check out their website at www.harrisonpressurewash.com for a little insight as to the scale of work they do on a daily basis.

Galax Va/pine cutters//roller//Gonzalez Crontrac//870.416.4284. Hi there my name is fredy mendez//brother your show is cool i wish i was able to do what you!! Well the job that I got foe you is cuttin pine tips, now this job is only seasonal it begins the last week of october and it end the first week of december. We make christmas ornaments with the pine tips, every year we have hundreds of hispanic imigrants that come to do this jod i believe is a very dirty job because as you cut the pine the sab gets all over you! imagine being cover with sab for 8 hrs a day and the only way to get the off you is to use hand degreaser. people get paid by how much they cut in other words by the lbs//so people have to cut as much as they can trhu out the day//so they put all the pine in sack that may weigh up 150lbs,so some workers make as manyas 20 sacks per day// next step is to load this on a truck that transport the pine to the packing house//but is not as easy it sounds, because every one has to keep track of their sack untill they get weight//and they are responssible to load and unload their sacks...email or call for more details and trust this job wil blow you away!!!!! kelly22 Junior Member Posted 04-04-08 08:53 AM Hey Mike!
How 'bout a trip to Quantico, VA to try on someone elses bloated skin?
Sounds gross and creepy - well indeed it is. Welcome to the world of forensic fingerprint examination. This means trying to fingerprint dead and (partially) decomposed bodies.
There may be legal issues to doing this one - not to mention the gross-out factor and religious objection but it sure is an awful job. For that matter, anything in the forensic field (i.e. mortician, pathologist, anatomist etc) is often quite awful.
When I was in professonal school, we would often earn extra cash by helping out at the morgue. One of the events we helped with was preparing for orthopaedic "gross conferences" (yes it is a wierdly funny name)in which surgeons practice techniques on joint preparations. But in order to get the "materials" ready we would often have to take chain saws to the bodies - truly, an awful job. The fellow who worked at the university morgue had a macabre sense of humor and would put on creepy music like Toccata and Fugue in D-minor while the students were busy preparing 50 left shoulders or some other joint. (Such a job can be done in any state where there is a big medical school).
Well, best of luck - love your show!

i work for westlake pools in bedford va we build pools (if you couldnt guess) and if you want a dirty job we got it with everything from heavy equipment to mud steel rebar and water, its also interesting to watch a lot go from grass to a summer time oasis, it takes about a week from start to finish (not sure if your only after something that can be completed in a day) but i think it would make a good show to see what goes into building a pool you can see some of our completed work at westlakepools.com if you just want a one day job you could come help us do a liner change in pools that have not ran in years with sludge algie mud frogs and lord only knows what else, and you would be amazed at how it can go from the extreme of filth to the most relaxing place around the home in one day.
thanks and i love the show

sassyav8r Junior Member Posted 04-05-08 10:10 AM How about changing out the lavatories on B717 and B737 aircraft for AirTran Airlines. At the Newport News Airport we could totally hook you up! It's disgusting, you have to wear a faceshield to keep the crap from accidentally splashing in your face, and if your lucky, someone will flush their wedding ring (happens ALL the time) and you'll have to go fish for it. Hope to see y'all out there!

Go talk to anyone at the shipping terminals or the naval bases in Norfolk, VA and i guarantee they can find you at least a thousand dirty jobs around the ships, because there truly is no dirtier place then being in certain spaces on board ships. The job list could include cleaning bilge tanks, cleaning sewage tanks, grinding ridge rings in engine cylinders (ship engines are tyically three stories tall), giving an acid bath to the intercooler baffles, cleaning the air boxes, cleaning oil purifiers (particularly the heavy oil purifiers), Sleucing the cargo wires, cleaning oil tanks, testing the anchors (trust me that's a fun one, wear eye protection on that for sure), and many many more. The one cath is that not all ships are doing this at the same time, but you may be able to get in touch with someone at the terminals and they may ask the ships what there maintenance plan is regarding the engine room and cargo gear and say you want to get dirty and i'm sure they will accomodate you. Also, everyone at the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY would truly appreciate it as we all watch your shows. A few companies you may want to speak with would include... Maersk Lines, Inc., Sealift Inc., Horizon Lines Inc., Ocean Shipping Inc., Ocean Shipholdings Group, and many more. Also you could contact the different maritime union officials with the American Maritime Officers Union, Master Mates and Pilots Union, and MEBA union. They may offer a large list of companies that would be making port calls in Norfolk Virginia and would let you know when the ships will be making their scheduled maintenance in Virginia. It would be very representative of the State of Virginia just because of the enormous maritime influence there.
