Please post your ideas here.

MISSISSIPPI
Please include job title, company/organization, city, etc. Must be a specific job, and not theoretical ("plumber" vs. "pipe fitter, Pipe City Plumbers, Silver Spring, MS"). Mississippi ideas only.

Thank you.

I first posted my Brother-in-laws job for revenge. But I believe that it is a great dirty job. He runs the Farrell Gin in Farrell MS.
First you could go out in the truck & pick up modules of cotton(Modules usually make about 3 or 4 bales I think), then suck the cotton up into the gin ( yes, they really do suck it up into the gin with a sucker pipe no less), & follow its progress until it comes out in a large bale ( as big as 500 lbs).
It is very dirty, can be a bit dangerous, & is a truly amazing process.

Hi! My Husband is the General Manager of the Keystsone Automotive Warehouse in Jackson, MS. Part of his job includes recycling bumper covers (the part of the car that most people call the fender). VERY DIRTY and PHYSICAL!

Also, there is a company in MS called Griffin Industries - all they do is collect and dispose of or recycle all types of grease and oil; everything from cooking liquids to automotive and industial fluids. ALSO, VERY DIRTY!!!

Love the show!!

My mommy is typing this but i wanted her to tell you about the job my daddy does. His name is Kyle Rowell and he works as a Mate on a towboat, for a company called Golding Barge Transportation, out of Vicksburg, MS. They push barges filled with chemicals/diesel feul up and down the Mississippi River. He loads/discharges barges in all sorts of weather freezing rain and sleet or burning mid-day heat. It's hot sweaty work and when the barges are empty they need to be cleaned out before they can be loaded with a different chemical or gasoline. He stays on a boat for 28 days moving up and down the river from dock to dock. Hope this helps. Both mommy and daddy say that his work is long hard and dirty so that is why i am here. thank you for taking the time to read this bye!!

Hi, I am an inspector with South East Supply Header (SESH). We are building the part of the pipeline that runs through Southern Mississippi. I sometimes work with our surveyors, Trico Surveying, surveying the route for the pipeline. In the swamps here there is mud, rattlesnakes, cotton mouths, mud, briars, thorny brush of all kinds, and did I mention mud? Working a a survery field hand is a really miserable job here. A chainsaw and a machette will get you through every time. You would love it.

Dear Dirty Jobs Crew,

I feel I have an excellent "dirty job" in mind for you in Wanilla, Mississippi. This job is at Cody's Catfish Farm. The job title would be "catfish cleaner". This job is definately disgusting and very dirty. It involves seining the catfish ponds to collect the fish amid the lovely creatures that inhabit the waters in the south. These creatures can include snapping turtles, leaches, water snakes, mosquitos, alligators, and perhaps the worst of all, the Cottonmouth snake! After seining the pond, the catfish cleaning begins. You must skin them, gut them, and prepare them to be sold at the counter. I feel this is definitely right up Mr. Mike's alley.

The man's job I am referring to is Clarence. I am not sure of his last name. Clarence is one of the kindest people I have ever met, just a genuine "southern gentleman." I have witnessed Clarence cleaning catfish, and I think he can completely clean one fish in about five seconds (one of the most amazing things I have ever seen). In fact, everyone working at Cody's are genuinely good people. The owner of this catfish farm is Mr. George Cody himself. He is up there in years, but I will tell you, he gets right down in the mix, seining the ponds and working the tractor.

I am from Mississippi and currently live in Las Vegas, Nevada. Every year I go back home, we always drive out to Cody's to witness Clarence as well as the rest of the staff hard at work doing a truly amazing and dirty job!

Please don't hesitate to contact me for further information pertaining to Cody's Catfish Farm.

Thanks for your consideration,
Chris Leveque

We have 2 breeder houses that will be coming up for their yearly clean out soon - probably July. I have never seen this on any of the Dirty Job shows. You have to clean the chicken litter out of two 40'x500' breeder houses and dispose of it, starting with the center, then you move the slats from one side to the other, clean the litter out there, replace the slats and do the same for the other side, clean down walls, all equipment and nest pads. Workrooms where eggs are collected also have to be cleaned out and disinfected. Repairs to equipment and conveyor belts are also done during this time. Clean out - depending on how much help you have - takes from two to three weeks. Then you might have a couple of weeks off before getting the next batch of 22,000 chickens. Everything inside the chicken houses themselves has to be washed down and disinfected. Mike contact us if you think you can handle this dirty job.

Mike always seems to be up to a challenge, and I have one for him. I skydive at Gold Coast Skydivers in Lumberton, MS. The Dirty Job that Mike needs to try is to be ,"help",the parachute packers. Sounds easy right. Except in the middle of the summer on a busy day. It's 98 degrees with 95% humidity and everybody wants their rig done now. You have to make sure that all the rigs are done correctly or somebody could get hurt or killed. Then if he does it correctly he can jump a parachute that HE packed.
Look forward to jumping with you, and watching you land with your parachute.

Hey Mike, how would you like to be a rug duster? I am plant manager for George Bell Rug Cleaning. It is a family owned, 61 year old, oriental rug cleaning company located in Jackson MS. Part of our cleaning process uses compressed air to blow the dirt out of the rug. It blows it into the air were it is sucked into filters. Not only is the rug dusting dirty, but the cleanup is even worse. The filters and room need to be cleaned at the end of the day. This is were the real "dirty job" comes in. I know that you like dealing with the waste by products of living creatures in Dirty Jobs so take comfort in knowing that we can fulfill that need with some "TT"ed rugs. You can view our process on our web site, www.georgbellrugcleaning.com. Oh and Mike if you come I'll BBQ up some ribs and even some pork butt, knowing that you like butts. Don't tell your partner from the commercial about the pork butt I'd hate to hurt his feelings. I'll even do the cleanup.

Sincerly,
Gene chakos
Plant manager, George Bell Rug Cleaning
Jackson, MS.

I am the County Forester for Stone and Forrest Counties for the Mississippi Forestry Commission; with my office being located in Wiggins,MS. A large part of my job envolves preforming prescribed burns on private and public lands. Prescribed burning is done to reduce the threat of catostrophic wild fires, improve wildlife habitat, reduce competeing vegitation, and other silvicultural improvements. The Mississippi Forestry Commission burns thousands of acres a year in Mississippi as well as fighting wildfires that break out in our area. In order to conduct this job one must be willing to walk long distances in dirty conditions carrying a drip torch and Eat Smoke on long days, and definitely be willing to get really really dirty doing it. I would enjoy having Mike and his crew come to Wiggins, MS and let us give him a hand in getting dirty and he can get a taste of what we mean by "Eating Smoke" for a living!

Here's something that probably doesn't get suggested everyday!!!!!!!!

AIRSHOW PILOT - Columbus, MS

Maybe not the ultimate in dirty, but has Mike ever repeatedly endured +7/-4 Gs during a 12 min performance in the deep-south summer heat? I would imagine he hasn't.

During the week, I am an Air Force instructor pilot in Columbus, MS where I teach the newest Air Force pilots how to fly. That alone is a demanding job, especially flying several times per day in the Mississippi August heat.

On the weekends, however, I moonlight as a professional airshow pilot in a high-performance, 300 hp, two-seat biplane throughout the south east, U.S. Although, the job looks glamorous (it is), it's not easy. From practicing, to preparing the plane, to flying the show (which is extremely physically demanding) -- the job is both thrilling and difficult with NO margin for error. And lets not forget the mildly dirty task of finally scraping the bugs and cleaning the smoke oil off the plane after the show.

You can find out more at:
www.vortexaerobatics.com
www.myspace.com/vortexaerobatics

btw, I love the show... keep up the good work.

Hello Dirty Jobs,
I am the VP - Head of NA Operations for Luvata Grenada's Heatcraft plant in Grenada, MS.

We make heat exchangers for commercial air conditioners and refrigerators. The plant is about 1 mil square feet, with over 1000 employees. I think the job that would be perfect for Mike to is to work down our assembly line from bending the copper, making fins, to brazing and testing the heat exchangers. The heat exchangers range in size from 1 ft long by 6 inches to over 30 feet long by 10 feet wide.

We would be glad to have Mike and crew around and will show them some true American manufacturing.

Look us up at www.luvata.com/heatcraft

Best regards,
Dennis

The south is a common place to find screen printing businesses. There is a post here for: Image Screen Printing in Pontotoc, MS. That is probably as good as any other. Specifically the screen washer position. He/She reclaims the screens for future use. This involves chemicals rubber boots; the kind of things Mike likes.

I own a small screen printing business myself in Washington State but I use only non toxic chemicals made from soybeans. No odor. (I am next door to Ed's bait and tackle shop in Ilwaco Washington, that is as dirty as I get.) A larger company would still use the old fashion solvents. Even the ink is stinky in some shops, but not mine.

Dear Mike and Show Producers, If you thought that the Wast Treatment Plant was Dirty and Smelly then you have yet to expierence what true stink is. How about a stench so bad that the entire city knows when the plant is processing. We have just such a Plant here, so if you ever make down to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, I have the place for you to visit. The Company is called Omega Protein Shipyard, and they are the largest manufacturer of Heart Healthy Fish oils containing Omega-3. The processing of which has got to be as Dirty as it gets, from pumping out the tanks on the boats that catch the fish to the extraction of the oils, cleaning the cargo holds of the boats, an so on and so on, right down to the stink we get to expierence 3-5 times a week during the fishing season. So give us chance to show you a turely dirty job. Thank You, James
Omega Protein Media Relations Toby G. or Mike W. at 225-383-2326 In addition to getting smelly you will also discover another use for the fish that you have mentioned on a previous show ( the Pogy fish) and as an added bouns we have casinos with some nice spa's so you can get clean'd up in afterwards and enjoy. Thanks
