NEW MEXICO
Please include job title, company/organization, city, etc. Must be a specific job, and not theoretical ("plumber" vs. "pipe fitter, Pipe City Plumbers, Silver Spring, NM"). New Mexico ideas only.

Thank you.

Hello, my name is David Haas. My wife, Jean, and I, train race horses @ Sunland Park, Hobbs and Ruidoso, New Mexico. We are a professional and caring stable that takes excellent care of our animals.

I believe my occupation would be considered "dirty" because of certain job descriptions...stall cleaning, grooming and bathing of the animal, training, feeding, sheath cleaning (getting the grime off the shaft of the horses penis), suturing fillies (sewing shut 70% of the female horses vagina to reduce air in her belly), and handling very happy 1000 pound animal. 365 days a year!

The Sandia Peak Tramway – the longest aerial tramway in the world – requires regular maintenance. This includes riding atop the tram car, and walking out on the cables to lubricate the cable and pulleys – including a span that is over 1000 feet above the ground. Very dirty, very dangerous!

If you are going to be dumb you had better be tough.

I am a Quality Assurance Supervisor here at the San Juan Generating Station in Waterflow New Mexico. We are doing Modifications and repairs to coal fired Boilers that provide steam to the turbines for electricity generation. Our Work Scope here is Dirty, Dusty, Cold, Wet, ect and Oh did I mention at elevations way above the ground. This Is Boiler Reconstruction at its best as we have several crafts working here from Boilermakers, Ironworkers, and Electricians, to mention a few of the folks working here.

One of the reasons that I am contacting you is that these folks need a shot in the arm (moral deptartment) and I think that if Mike could make the scene, that would be just what I need. Obviously there would be a need to be a few logistical areas that would be worked out as this is a major industrial project and Mike and the crews saftey and well being would be paramount.

We are presently in what we call an Outage where we are deep in the "Bowels" of this steam belching bemoth replacing various components and this phase will be on going until sometime in march. I dont know what your time frame scheduling requirements are but this would be a great thing here for these young craftspersons should it be possibility

It's a restored historic steam engine and I'll tell ya, those guys working it are BLACK with coal dust and soot from head to toe, and it runs through some of the most gorgeous country in all of the 50 states. Hope to see you shoveling coal soon Mike!

How about Antenna Mechanic at the Very Large Array at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (Soccoro, New Mexico). I am not sure how dirty this is, but Mike would get to work with very large and very unusual machinery. Look here for more information.

Clayton New Mexico is surrounded by huge cattle yards - the scent is...unique. There is an extremely old dormant volcano to the north of town, on the other side of a deep valley between lava flows; with a very pretty little lake behind it. The old hotel in town still has bulletholes in the bar from the good ol' days. You should check out the cattle yards.

Dear Mike,

We are avid fans of your Dirty Jobs show and just can’t watch enough of the filthy situations you get yourself into. Since you are always working so hard to get dirty we thought you might like to relax and unwind dirty style too. We would like to invite you and your Dirty Jobs crew to play mud volleyball with our Muddy Buddies’ team in the 14th Annual Mudd Volleyball Tournament on June 21, 2008, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Each summer, thousands of New Mexicans "Get Down & Dirty" in the annual Mudd Volleyball Tournament benefiting the Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation. Since 1937, Carrie Tingley Hospital has provided health care for New Mexico children and adolescents under the age of 21 who require long-term medical and therapeutic care, children with chronic physical impairments and developmental disabilities. It is widely known for orthopedic surgery, prosthetics and orthotics technology and fabrication, and rehabilitation services.

Our team of highly motivated-to-get-dirty friends has contributed to the foundation and played in the tournament for the past three years and every year we manage to walk away dirtier than the last. We hope you’ll accept our invitation to play in this prestigiously polluted event. You can find more information on the event and the foundation at http://www.mudd4kids.org/events.htm if you like.

We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Sincerely,

Dan and Denise Wolfe

I think that you should consider wildland firefighting. One New Mexico company that does this is:

Smokey Bear Hotshots
Ruidoso, New Mexico
http://www.smokeybearhotshots.com

NOTE: I do not work for this company; however, I think that you will definitely find this to be a very dirty job.

Hi Mike,
The dirtiest job in NM...working at Elephant Butte State Park in the summer. I worked there years ago as a seasonal employee. I got to pump out portable toilets, cleaned the unspeakable off the floors of comfort stations every day, cleaning fire pits and grills, and the trash on the beach...unbelievably gross...especially after Memorial Day! Loads and loads of trash and nastiness in the 100 degree heat. Lovely.

I don't have a name/number but you could contact the Superintendent of Elephant Butte State Park, Elephant Butte, New Mexico. This would be a nice tribute to the Park Rangers who work so hard while everyone else gets to have fun on the lake.

Hello, this is Craig Nelson with Dawn Trucking in Farmington New Mexico. Come out to northern New Mexico and enjoy the knee deep mud swamping behind a twin steer winch truck dragging and hooking up cables moving drilling rig equipment. Not only a dirty job, but a physical one. I have seen you work on the floor of the drilling rig, now you can see how these rigs are rigged down moved and set up at their next location. Check us out at www.dawntrucking.com

We catch and sale waterdogs. We use a seine to catch them in ponds and lakes. Waterdogs are used for bait to catch big bass during the spawning season. A waterdog will eventually turn into a tiger salamander the same way a tadpole will turn into a frog. We use a 150 ft net to catch them. It is very hard and nasty work. We deal with tons of mud and some other creatures like turtles, water snakes, and crawfish. I have been catching them off and on for twenty years. Although I do not live in Neqw Mexico this is where we catch alot of them.

Greetings Mike,
My name is Tracus and may I suggest a wee bit of housekeeping for you New Mexico job. The numerous formations found within the depths of Carlsbad Caverns are in desperate need of dusting. After thousands and thousands of tourists have walked through the caverns, they have left behind a lot of lint and dust which has since collected on the formations of flowstone, stalactites and stalagmites. They could use a good cleaning and they need your help. BTW - I am not making this up. The job is for real.

Take care,
Tracus
