Hi Mike! You have a fantastic show and we make sure to watch it regularly. It even makes my workouts more bearable watching re-runs. I know you have done some work with cattle-but how about branding calves? This also includes vaccinations, tagging, castrating and such. You are guaranteed to get pooed on, snotted/sneezed on, maybe some blood (not yours) probably be in some mud and have a aroma around you that you can only appreciate by smelling it yourself. The day usually starts by rounding up all the cow/calf pairs and driving them to the house, then they get sorted calves one way cows the other. The cows get run through a chute and checked over, then time to brand the calves. The steers get castrated and they all get vaccinated. The dirtiest job is pushing the calves-when they have scours it is the worst as you push each calf into the chute using your legs. So by the end of the day you have poo covered pants-sounds like your type of job! This adventure usually takes place mid-end of May. My parents have a cow/calf operation in a small town in Nebraska that would love to have you. My Dad is very big into safety for us and for the animals-and for as little stress on the cattle as possible. If you dare to take on this incredible adventure-get ready, to get dirty!
