OK simple idea: Film one of the main wheels of a Jet as it touches down. I am an airline pilot and I think about this every time I am at work. I wonder what the tires really have to endure when they touch down. Think about it: 0 to 140 mph in a fraction of a second, 0 to 100,000+ lbs in a fraction of a second. Smoke, compression, trauma! I would love to see it! Anyone else? The only problems I can see is the challenge of mounting a camera in a position to actually film the tire(s) and getting permission from the insurance company, FAA, and finding an aircraft owner willing to do it. And it has to be a jet. The bigger the better. Transport category at least, no piston engines allowed! Are you up to the challenge?
I have been wishing I could see that in slow motion for years now and think that thousands of pilots (and passengers) would love to see the incredible stresses that these tires endure every touchdown. Sorry I don't have any heavy metal to strap a camera on though and I'm not sure how impressive a 172's tires would look.. but I would still be thrilled even to see that.
