We fans and family are really exasperated with the lack of support being shown to the show. The site is not kept up to date. There is so advertising for the show. There's no promotion going on and we never know if today's episode will be a rerun or not until it airs, which may or may not be at exactly 4:00 central time. Some fans have complained that the show came on early yesterday. I'm not sure what that is about, but it's definately staying within character of a conglomerate whose right hand doesn't know what it's left hand is doing. Well, I could go on, but I'm just an mom. Let's hear from some of the fans of what I happen to think is an extrememly well written and executed show.

I agree! I love the show but never would have started watching had I not stumbled onto it while watching the usual afternoon line up of crime shows on Discovery. I also wonder why it is that other shows such as 'Dirty Jobs' and 'American Chopper' are advertised so often that it gets a bit ridiculous. I don't happen to watch either of those shows but I don't feel like I need to because they advertise them so much that I'm sure I've seen the highlights!! I don't understand why Discovery would want to put the money into a show that they are going to bury. To Matt & Jon: Keep up the good work, your t.v. network may not appreciate you, but you have a growing fan base who do! We love you guys!!

Ditto here...

I lost count how many times Dirty Jobs American Chopperand were advertised yesterday ALONE...so why It Takes a Thief is not getting its fair share of advertisement is confusing me...If it wasn't for one of our own at the other board..we wouldn't know what the schedule is for It Takes a Thief...What a let down. Not everybody is interested in laying down manure (or wrangling an ostrich) and building motorcycles.. I don't know whose drinking what or smoking what at the Discovery network..but someone needs to take charge and start promoting and advertising the show just like all the other shows on this network...its only fair.

This Discovery station features realism, building choppers, dirty jobs etc. We watch and we are waiting for something violent to happen or disgusting. These shows are "real".

ITAT is pretend stealing and everyone knows their stuff will be returned. There have been too many comments that this show teaches stealing. The show is about teaching you what you can do to prevent loss and how break ins happen. But it lacks the reality of violence and death that does occur in real life. Change it to being more graphic and perhaps it will be on prime time on this station.

I think if it aired by TLC or HGTV it would be on prime time, since is is a teaching program.

Did Discovery realize that it doesn't match the realism of the rest of these programs and quietly buried it? Did Discovery pick up on the negative posts about this show and put it in this poor time slot?

It would be interesting to know the reasons that the viewers watch this program? I know there are ITAT haters out there to. So please post and give you reasons for watching.

1. Are you worried about robbery?
2. Have you made security improvements to your home after learning about it from ITAT?
3. If you don't watch it to learn why do you watch it?
4. Would you want to see real breakins and violence to the victims and do you think that this would get it into prime time? Knowing Matt and Jon...they would not be in this realistic format.

1. Yes, I am worried about robbery since my home was broken into last fall.

2. Yes, I have made improvements in my home security, taking several tips from the show. I have drastically changed my views on home security and how I used to take things for granted.

3. I watch it to learn.

4. I don't think the breakins can get much more realistic than what is on the show. Real burglars do make a mess of a person's home to get what they want. I have some pics of my office after my breakin that I took with my webcam. People who think it doesn't happen like on the show are just sitting targets.

I would just like to say.. I love the show. I respect Jon and Matt for what they do. Now, I have a bone to pick. Hopefully Susanj50 can help me. I went to Matt's forum and made a post, it's been several weeks and there is still not a reply from Matt. I think the show is great, but there are still slot of holes in the security that someone like myself could exploit. I just wanted to make Matt and Jon aware of those down-falls. Will you help me Susan?

1st of all I just want 2 say Hi 2 all OF U Smile & WHILE ANSWERING the 4 questions posted earlier also give my opinion on some things
I apologize in advance 4 writing so much but it’s a habit of mine that I can’t stop Smile

1. Yes I’m worried about robbery b/c its just like they say on the show u never think it’s gonna happen 2 u until it does. Also b/c my dorm room provides very little security 4 my things which r my life & my tools 4 everything I do!!!!. Sometimes I just feel like my laptop won’t be there when I come back from class it’s so scary. This is why I watch the show & b/c from 2 to 3pm pacific time I don’t have class

2. I have not b/c most of the renovations involve making holes in the walls which my Dorm does NOT allow!! Mad Otherwise I would. @my house we did put in new motion sensor lights and we're changing the old locks. Actually this is somewhat of a standard in my family --we're known 2 move A LOT-- so it’s nothing new. There r certain things from the show that I would love to get like the safe & the strong box 4 the keys & the cameras & lots +++++
3. I watch it to learn & b/c it’s entertaining.
e.g. in today's show they featured a NICARAGUAN family which just blew my socks off Eek b/c I’m form Nicaragua too and I never imaged they would feature a Nicaraguan family I mean this is the 1st time I’ve heard talk of Nicaragua that doesn’t come from my family, the Spanish channel or the evening news. Also it was funny yet it really got 2 me b/c we have a habit of hiding things like that as well &it was just freaky 2 see how easily Jon found them.
4. I think violence 2 the victims would be a little too much b/c the majority of burglaries occur when no one is home & that would just make the show seem like it wants attention which I do I agree it fully deserves. However, I think I would just bring it close to the bad side of REALITY TV that we all know and hate. What I would like 2 see if a switch of roles have Matt try 2 break in while Jon talks 2 the family it would be a nice change but other than that I think the show is AWESOME!!! Cool I even enjoy the little commercials w/the Allstate guy.
I think Discovery Channel just needs 2 realize that not everyone wants 2 know the 50 different ways Manure is used 2 make our lives “easier" I think more people r more interested in keeping their possessions & family safe than knowing all of the COMPONENTS OF MANURE.

Thanks Sue, but I went to his forum and posted the same questions directly to him... alot of views and no reply from Matt. I find it a bit rude considering he has replied to other posts since then. I'm just trying to shed some light on some issues for the show. I'm just trying to make the show better and a little more knowledgable to what products they are installing.

The answer is simple. When is the last time you saw a commercial on ANY channel for a non-prime time show?

And of course they are going to heavily advertise American Chopper. The revenue from that show is what enables The Discovery Channel to HAVE shows like It Takes a Thief.

I must ask a dumb question here.

Is the show "It Takes a Theif" the one where it is a reality-based TV style of environment they drive down the street and case a house and then tell the homeowner they want to try and break in. And if they get in they will do something like give the house a make over???

I have no idea what the name of the show is that I just outlined. I was watching something on TV one Friday, Saturday, or Sunday(all a days are a blur now.) I was at my friends house. 3 weekends ago I saw this show where these two guys were driving down the street they saw a house, and said they were going to try and break in it. They asked the homeowner's permission to try to secure the house as best as they could---. And the two ladies did.

They put the dogs on the first floor put their first floor windows locks on etc. But the burgler guy jumped up on top of the garage, swung across the roof and into a 2nd floor open bathroom window... He put down some food for the small dogs, and put the big dog outside... took a bunch of stuff.... ran back outside let the dog back in then jumped on a motorcycle and sped away. Unfortunantly, I wasn't totally focusing on remembering the name of that show. I was helping my good friend move. We stumbled across the show which I've outlined completely by accident and just started sitting down watching it, leaving the packing until after the show ended. We both--- have no idea what it was called but we are hooked. I'm finally fete-up thinking about this show all the time and I've set out to find out the actual name so I can add it to my TIVO regiment.

I have no idea what channel it was on but I've narrowed it down to the 'Discovery Channel/TLC style of cable stations. I want to see this show again! Is this "It Takes a Theif" that show?????

Sorry for the dumb question but I have no idea how to find this out.

I did a google search for "Reality TV home Robbery break in Allstate" because I remember All State kept advertising during it.... And the rest because I was hoping some Washington Post or New York Times article somewhere would turn up slamming the makers of this documentory for showing something soo 'revolutionary' but nothing came up. I'm going to try and continue searching but if someone could email me and tell me if I've reached the right spot I'd be greatful. I love the show too. We watch it everyday at 4:00. And I agree there should be more advertising. But I watch Dirty Jobs and I love it too. It Takes A Thief is a good show that has great tips and has helped alot of people with their home security. Myself included. I now lock all my windows and doors and take extra precautions outside as well. Do a little extra promotion for the show. I think it will pay off in the long run.

Even my dog knows when it is time for the show. LOL! I wish they did advertise it. I think if people were aware of the show it would have many more fans. I think Matt and Jon are a couple of the sweetest treats on tv ever. If they came to my house I would GIVE them my belongings and Jon could drive my 3000GT(I know how he loves the rides).I wouldn't ask for anything else ever, I swear! Roll Eyes

I think you are right about FOX network making good use of ITAT. If I could afford to buy the rights to it I would take the project on myself!!! I think it's a great show even if I am related to one of the guys.

First, this show is not realistic. I should know as I have been a thief for over 20 years. No this is not my name. When I robbed someone, I investigated the place and or the person. I made sure that the job would be worth my time. I did not take stupid items like on the show. I was very meticulous in what I was after and last but not least, unless you were looking for something that I took, you would never know that I was there. No trashing of the place was allowed. I have even been known to get a drink of water and then wash the glass. Today, I live a very quiet life and own my own business. Safe to say that I do not steal these days as my spouse would hang me.

Well... I like the show. I think both Matt and Jon are very attractive men. I have learned a lot about what is wrong in my own home and wish I could get my mom to watch at least one episode. She feels because we have a dog outside that we are safe and says "Locks just help keep and honest man honest". Being a single mom, I realize just how much stuff I have worked for and would hate to loose. When I get my own house someday (crosses fingers), I'm definately going to use what I have learned. Between now and then, I'm going to get me a safe and bolt that sucker down. LOL Is there a way to contact the guys to let them know how greatful I am for doing the show?
