I have more than one friend with very excited dogs. Whenever I come over I get jumped on, nipped at, pushed, and scrached. I know they aren't being agressive, they just want to play. What's the best way to avoid getting mauled walking in?

well first off your friends with the animals have to do some training on their end. i watched a episode of its me or the dog and the had a jack russell that barked alot when people would come to the door. they need to teach them to sit when u come in the door. i suggest bringing treats for the dogs like some lunch meat tore into little pieces. make them sit when u come in and reward them a treat when they do. i would hope this will teach them to sit till they are told to move. im no pet trainer but i love watching shows on pet training.

It is a difficult thing to do, training somebody elses dog. You really should speak to your friend about the dog. If your friend will not train the dog have your friend go over to your house instead (without dog).
You could try, do not greet the dog at the door. Walk in, if dog nips then turn away and go out the door. If you go to sit on the couch or chair and the dog jumps on you, get up and go out of the chair.
You will have to keep doing this till the dog does not jump on you. As stated in the above post treat the dog when it stops the jumping.
As you can see with what I wrote, this kind of training should be done by the owner for you to do it will be an uphill battle.
