Confused about what? Potty training? First, don't worry about the potty training yet. Figure out what breed you would like. And who says you have to potty train? If you rescue a dog from the shelter, there's a possibility you may never even have to tackle that! Have you had a dog before?

First of all, slow down just a little bit. Your dad and dog moving out, plus a new dog on top of it could be a little overwhelming. For you and a new dog. I suggest waiting a little bit. Take a month or two to slow down and do a lot of research, especially if you're going to be the main caretaker for a new dog. First, find out what you are looking for in a dog. Small, little exercise, cat friendly...? All of that. Then figure out what you need. If you have any questions, there's a lot of people here to answer them. Just make sure you won't have too much on your plate at once. Dogs are excellent at reading other people's emotions. If the dog thinks you're stressed, that dog will be too!

Was your cat fine with your other dog? If you rescue a dog you can always ask for a dog that is good with cats. That way the dog won't stress the kitty out too much. And as long as you give both animals attention, there's no reason why your cat won't feel unloved.

I also recommend the wait period. If you are the only person taking care of a dog you forgot that you have to go to school. For a person your age to take care of a dog and go to school is not an easy thing to do. A dog is more dependent on a person then a cat is.
