It sounds more like lack of socialization and a barking problem than anything else.

If she only does it in the car, teaching her to lay down while in the car would be the easiest on an old dog.

hmmm, lots of people have said that, about socialization.... But when she was a pup I took her to dog training, so she does all the sit/stay/come/heel etc., stuff, I also had a shop where she would greet customers..... she absolutely adores people, just not dogs; not only barking in the car, its on walks, outside home, anywhere she sees another dog Confused

After trying socializing and seeing that repeatedly your dog continues to act this way, I would say that it's inherent to her personality. What you can do is before your dog gets fixated on the other dog, you spot the dog before she does, and start correcting her as you pass, saying leave it, leave it. When you do pass, and if she does any better than before, tell her "good girl". You could also have treats on hand to give her when she does a little better so she associates a good thing happening when another dog is around. The bottom line is this type of dog will probably never want to play with a strange dog without a gradual introduction, but you can teach her to ignore strange dogs and not feel the need to be aggressive towards them without being provoked.

hmmm,
I am doing the same thing with my dog that she does not like any dog near her face area since she got bitten by another dog when she was a puppy. I got her to ignore other dogs but it is not always easy. I am trying to get my dog to the point that there is no need for her to be aggressive toward other dogs when other dogs gets close to her face. I am not sure if this is a herding instinct or not because she is a Border Collie/Lab mix. If any one has any suggestions to help me get her to accept other dogs in her face area and be calm about it. I am open to any ideas. Thank you and hope to hear any suggestions

i have been having the same problem with my dog. I'm at wits end with her and after 5 yrs of walking her in the park you'd think she would get it. she has 8 other dogs on the property where we live to play with but of course she doesn't, its like she doesn't know they are there. but we go for a walk and oh ya she notices other dogs and goes directly to attack mode. I've tried everything i saw on good dog U, barking mad, assorted website, forums, book and she passed dog training class. she listens to every conman but stay. i have no solutions for you. but i know exactly how you feel. im so frustrated with my dog that the first person that wants her, she's gone. sad to say but i need a dog that i can walk with. she's a good watch dog. but then again any dog will let you know someone is coming.

I think your dog has fear aggression and consult with a dog trainer and/or a dog behaviorist. If you tell her it's okay, she thinks "oh it's okay for me to get more fearful" and she will become more feared than before.

When introducing dogs together, they must be on neutral grounds and if something goes wrong, break them up.

aggression problem yes but a park is neural grounds. i have since saved a puppy from the pound and instead of all training i added in lots of other animal play time. my other dog wouldn't have anything to do with the puppy til she saw the other dogs and him playing and became jealous. now i have another problem -.-; she is now very protective of the puppy and attacks the neighborhood dogs (reminder we have no fence per say boundaries) at least shes not attacking the newcomer in our home. i have decided to keep her cuz i grown to love her anyways.

my question is even though the puppy is learning social skills will my dog teach him differently? btw, the puppy i adopted is blind. so theres the whole new training program for him.
