Hello everyone. I am a young freelance writer hoping to make an impact with my articles. I am very involved with my local animal shelter and own pets. I show rabbits, guinea pigs and do agility with my dogs. I volunteer at the local shelter and have seen first hand how state funding and personal donations don't support the shelter enough, ecspecially when we get large cruelty cases in. I would love to write an article and pitch it to the big time magazines/newspapers about the problem with overcrowding of animals and not enough funding in local shelters all across the country. However, I wanted to be careful and not minimise the efforts of national plans already in place for funding. I did some research and did not come across much. Does anyone know of any national funding or organization (other than the ASPCA) for local shelters? Let me know. Thanks. Also, I am open to any ideas of what all of you think should be highlighted in the article and touched upon??? It's just a rough outline right now. I believe that the first step towards helping the animals in shelters is to educate the public on a national level and show them both the positive and negative sides that go along with local shelters. Thanks!
