Well, Josh was dismissed rather easily, wasn't he? Oh, and they hired two new, younger guys to combat the extreeeemmmmee tactics of Timmer & Co. And now they themselves have a TIV (TVN)? What's this show coming to?

So far it is too much screaming reed and not much on the science aspect of what makes the storms happen. I guess it is easier for a single vehicle like lone wolf reed to get to a storm and harder for someone with a big caravan of scientific vehicles to get into position. But all reed has to do is get video whereas getting actual useable data is much more difficult.

I like Reed, but don't like how they did the dow by replacing with two people who have no clue on what they are doing.

i agree i could spot better from my house then they were doing. It seemed they were not really wanting to chase they were to timid for the job. josh i mess him. He is the counter point to reed. was no where to be found. It was a good race between the black SUV and the turtle people and reed the old armor car is lost with out josh. he needs some good spotters.

I have to wonder if the TIV crew is going to turn into the incompetent Sea Shepherds from Whale Wars. It might have ben adviseable to determine who was in charge before setting out.

I know Reed can speak in a normal voice because I heard him last week on Wait Wait Don't Tell Me radio show.

I know shaky-cam is part of the immediacy of the show, but I don't want to see every single wobbly shot of the ground every time someone has to run back to the car.

On a couple shots it looked like something was spinning in the center of the scene. Is that some sort of device that keeps the rain off the camera lens?

I also think the previews are going to be like Whale Wars in that we won't see the most dramatic shots until the last show, like the glass breaking in Reed's face. Yet we'll see it in the promos every week.

i agree with you on the teaser. i thought it was my eyes because i have bad eyes that made the little spinning things. glad to know it was not just me.i hope that the older TIV get it together. It would ba a shame as its the best know car on the road. when it came thou Louisville all my grand kids started yelling about it. i had a hard time getting them to understand that the car can't stop every time somebody wants it too .it was also a shame they miss the little T1 that hit an hour after they went thru.impoluse if you check out the video on the site you see on the left side. he was cut pretty good i don't think he even felt it.

This wasn't a big year for high tornado numbers so I don't expect many dramatic storms on the show. I hope they don't mess with the season's actual chronology and show the storms out of order for dramatic purposes.

As for Josh? He was riding with Vortex, wasn't he? He and other science guys were off sciencing themselves while others were actually chasing what little there was to chase last year. Good riddance to Josh 'can't find a tornado til it chases him' Wurman. I didn't miss him. I found the other teams entertaining including Sean being the Hollywood diva that he is.

I agree that Josh will be missed. He was the yang to Reed's yin. Now it's just 3 teams of screaming people with no radar or education. And with Sean's new hires who are exactly as he described them (yes men) now you have an uneducated blind film maker in charge of intercepting tornados.

Also, did anyone notice that there was very little background or set up to any of the scenes? It was just chase after chase after chase. I thought I was watching the new transformers movie for a second. I miss the characters, the plot, the science, and the human factor of the show.

Disappointed...

I think it is a very cheap and dumb effect put in place to make things look like they are moving around when they are not actually doing anything. It is extremely annoying and fake and takes me out of the show each time they do it.
The show disappointed me. Stop following Sean so much and following the people that know about storms. He just wants to make a video.. make the show about his video when he gets done with it.

I don't think hitting him anywhere upside his head is going to affect him at all, for very long or even slow him down. Wink

Joel strikes me as the more thoughtful one, the one who considers consequences a lot more.

i must agree. having made A's in macro climatology I'm more interested in the storms, not yelling, crapping or being lost.
i also agree hitting reed anywhere above the neck is useless. nobody home. I was wondering if maybe reed has a hearing problem like i do. I can feel as well as hear the pressure dropping when a storm is building. nothing special, i had damage done to my inner ear as a child. when the pressure drops its like being in a wind tunnel. i would yell at hubby in a storm now i try to not yell. My being able to hear anything else was imposable. could reed be like that ?

I have to agree this season did start off different. There was no prep scenes, no piddling in the hangar back at home base, they just kinda jumped right into it. It feels weird now that it's just 3 groups of normal people running around with computers. I can say i truly miss Josh and his team.. Even if they did fail at getting Sean directly into a tornado, it still gave the show a "base" feeling, like there was purpose to be out there. Now it feels like the diverse attitudes and personalities are just gone. I enjoyed Aaron and Danny i thought they put a good mix into things. I feel sorry for those 2 guys in the truck lol, they have to deal with Sean's aggressive attitude and they seem pretty laid back. I also noticed there's no women in this season! Lol sorry but i miss Hannah, she was funny.

I don't know, i'll still watch the show because it interests me, but i wish we had the others back.

Sean is an ignorant, agressive and ill-tempered idiot of unparalleled dimension. I can't stand the man.

Discovery Networks has taken most of the science out of all their science shows and replaced it with action sequences designed to entertain the lowest-common denominator. This is sad.

I am glad to hear Josh and a rational scientific approach are slated to reappear -- I seriously miss getting a bird's eye-view of the storms they are chasing each day, and Josh did a great job keeping us filled in.

The TIV missed largely for being slow and poorly maneuverable -- how did Sean think that adding blindness would help their cause?

Git rid of Reed. He's more of an immature egotistical frat house jerk than anything else.

After to nights show I've had about all I can take of his constant yelling, to say nothihg of his personality. His camera work is jerk(ie) also.

Sometime he strikes me as more of a Spring Break let me film you while you bare your brests type.

Ok. I admit to being a little to harsh on Reed.
His constant yelling has to go tho if not toned down a lot.

KSChaser knows this because he has a huge man crush on Sean and when SEAN in not chasing KSChaser is in the bush's outside SEANS house rubbing one out
KSChaser:
Sean is not ignorant, he is a filmmaker, not a Meteorologist. So yes, Sean would fail without Josh.

Josh will be on later. Sean started out the season without Josh, but once he realized chasing without Josh is impossible he hooks backs up with Josh.[/QUOTE]

Missed Josh and his crew..I would miss any of the chasers if they pulled them off the show. I know there are a lot of Reed haters because of his screaming and yelling...but I know if a huge tornado was bearin down on me, I wouldn't exactly be calm either. Looking forward to another season..be glued to the tv every Sunday night until December..hopefully Sean will go out and get a GPS so we can watch him chase down a tornado and not chase down a road. I was disappointed by the first show in the new season. It was too disjointed and had a vast lack of context compared to last season.

Yeah, we all know things can get dangerous. Same with "Deadlist Catch"... but in that series they always make sure to provdise the "big picture" by providing location, timeline and status. Storm Chasers totally failed to do that in this first show.

Reed screaming every once in a while is tollerable, but screaming ALL the time really takes away any impact his excitement might conveys. Not to mention it is annoying

Also there is such a thing as post-production -can we edit our all the fuzzy pictures of the grass and mud please???

If I were to set the new series on a scale of 1-to 10, and set last years series at an arbitrary 10 -the new series is a 4. So far! lol!

A big fan of Seasons 1 and 2 here... who is very, very disappointed by the first episode of Season 3.

Biggest bummer for me: no pacing. No contrast in the personalities' stories. No setup, buildup & payoff. No up vs. down, no fast vs. slow, no coolheaded science vs. adrenaline rush. Just the same beat over and over. All fast editing, all jerky camera work, all yelling voices, all dramatic music, all hype, all the time.

This goes way beyond shifting on-screen personnel. It's a fundamental change in the vision for the show.

Sorry, guys. Not entertainment. No offense to the network, producers or fans, but the dynamic of Episode 1 plays like a World Federated Wrestling show.

I'll check out ep. 2, but if it's another hour of guys running out of cars & Reed screaming and guys running back into cars & Reed screaming and insert Sean angst and guys running out of cars & Reed screaming and guys running back into cars & Reed screaming and insert Sean angst and guys running out of cars & Reed screaming & guys running back into cars & Reed screaming and insert Sean angst...

Very disappointing.

I think it smacks of creative editing that they left out that information, in order for the reunion to be more "dramatic" later in the season.

Well since I'm going to do my first chase in four months I'm kinda seeing what not to do. I have asked for advice on the other part of this site. wonder what they will say.
Its been a wish of mine for years to chase not to be on TV but to chase. My hubby has finally said yes to taking the three months.
Do any of you good people wish to impart any wisdom on this little old lady?

Although this show is getting off on a rocky start, its still worth finding out what happens the next week. I find that Sean and Reed who were on friendly terms last season are now head to head in this season. I can understand Seans reasons for the dominator, dominator, dominator..but I wonder if its real or playing to the camera? What I thought was the most exciting was that Joel is getting fed up with Reed. Amen brother. I think because Reed got pushed up to the front of the lineup (first name mentioned on the credits) its going to his head. Reed, drop the mountain dew and grow up. Tim is highly respected in the chasers community and I'm glad they added him to the mix until Josh returns. Cool

I get the impression that most of these people don't think they are being heard until they shout something at least FOUR times in a row.

Sean was obviously being smarmily polite to Reed & crew after he got stuck. I understand his frustration and/or animosity -- as it seems they are taking over the show.

The newer (dare I say, older) more sedate chasers to the show actually got the best shot -- absolutely beautiful. And they knew enough to just watch it and comment quietly instead of shouting "LOOKIT THAT! LOOKIT THAT! LOOKIT THAT! LOOKIT THAT!"

A dead battery in the communications equipment? This makes me think again that they are taking cues from the Whale Wars crew.

They really need to pay attention when putting clips together for the show!! They were showing a hotel in Hobbs NM and yeah that was YORK NEBRASKA!! I would know I actually talked to the guys at that hotel the day they were there and I live in York I would know that town!! Really for a show on a big network to always make these mistakes of screwing up what town and messing clips up...pretty unorganized!!

I'm really disappointed in this season's show. I can take a certain amount of "creative editting" and even the occassionally thinly veiled set up shot but come on Discovery Channel! How dumb do you think your viewers are?

This show suffers greatly from MTVitis in the "creative" use and immediate reuse of shots and scenes throughout each episode. What's normally about 40-45 minutes of show is actually just 30-35 minutes stretched out to fill the hour-long timeslot.

That item plus the really obvious spinning element overlayed on some of the "exciting" outdoor storm shots is truly insulting.

It's too bad. A decent show made sub-standard by poor production decisions.

I think the "spinning element" is just a camera device designed to keep rain off the lens that doesn't work very well. You only see it in certain shots with Reed's crew.

If I hear any variation of "Dominating!" one more time...

The show was interesting enough on its own last season. I don't see how this new phony / scripted / set-up reality TV garbage is going to attract any new viewers. It seems to me that it will only get people like me to stop watching.

The shows pretty funny... I don't know why everyone is ganging up on Reed. He's the same from last season. I think Sean just needs to stop crying about his lack of leadership and luck.

Keep "dominating, dominating, dominating, dominating ,dominating ,dominating, dominating." -OKAY that's a bit ridiculous.

You know ... I was thinking that I would call last night's episode: the Funny Chase. I was laughing ... and I don't think I was supposed to be.
Well, if we expect changes or that our comments are taken to heart (if heard at all) we should realize that 99% of the show is already in the can. Thus, we can't expect many corrections or changes from the path the show is on until next season - but on the chance someone in charge is reading ...
I beginning to like the new fellow, Tim S? Again, names get lost in the shouting, but he is an Engineer with what appears to be experience - I'll stick around to see him do things 'old style.'

Finished watching the second show. Seems like more of the same as season 2 only this time Sean seems to have better locating done by the two new meteoroigist in the "Doghouse" than he ever had with the DOW operator (Josh?). Josh needs to got back to school and learn how to use the DOW properly and give better directions and Sean need to listen more and talk less. Reed need to tone down the volume and enlarge his vocabulary.
