While I agree that some of the shows could be better vetted for practicality, it is clear to me that the person who started this thread is by far the bigger idiot than he accuses the cast of being.
bigjoet is forgetting that this is a television show. As such, it must be entertaining. The fact that, for the more schooled of us, some of the ideas are, prima facia, quite silly, most in the audience are not so schooled. When you see such episodes that are, nonetheless, entertaining, visually impactful, and, most importantly, FUN, just consider it a remedial class and shut the hell up. These people, like the Mythbusters before them, are bringing science and the scientific method to the public in a way that the public schools have so miserably failed to do.
As to the girl, well there you are just a moron. She is well-trained, attractive, and interesting. She has character and the fact that she gesticulates so wildly makes her interesting and gives her what we in the broadcast industry call a "hook". Add to that the fact that she, as the scientist on the show, demonstrates to young girls that a beautiful, charismatic, and fun woman can STILL be a scientist.
Too many people who are well educated become boorish, arrogant, and generally irritating. This is why Geeks such as bigjoet have such problems getting dates. Everyone on the show is well educated and innovative, if sometimes impractical, but they are doing a great public service by showing how science can be fun. You would put a stop to it because you, while well trained in whatever your field is, are a COMPLETE MORON when it comes to broadcast television.
I therefore respectfully request that you spend your time polishing your interpersonal skills, bigjoet (somehow, I am suspecting that the "big" in your name refers to your ego and weight as opposed to any other part of your anatomy) and leave this field up to the people who know what they are doing.
