Smash Lab should do more homework and contact ReactAmine Technology, LLC. If there were to contact Stuart Smith he would inform them that neither Rhino liner, or Line-X are able to stop the type of blast needed to protect a buliding. However, ReactAmine's extrablast covered with their Amerilite hardcoating works just fine. It is currently used on buildings and can stop a car trunk full of C4 ten meters away.
I just finished watching the episode on blast protection. Three critical things were completely missed. There are windows manufactured to be blast resistant. This would be a more secure installation over the shutters the crew tried and require no reaction time for the mechanism. They are made of laminated glass which absorb the blast and prevent shrapnel. The door should have been more blast resistant and monted towards the outside if the building. It is harder to breach the door that way. More care needed to be taken around the joints where the windows and doors meet the main structure. These are weak points and require overlaps in protection. By not overlapping these points you rely on the construction materials to absorb more force than they are designed to. Other than those flaws it was an interesting episode. If one was seriosly trying to bomb proof a building these things would have to be looked at. If they are missed than you get the result you had on the show.
