I was asked for help with making the living room brighter and more comfortable. I started with new lighting. We took out the can lights at the fireplace and replaced them with antique style stained glass adjustable hanging lamps. The colors in the lamp shades were my inspiration for the room.
I started out with a base coat of a light yellow gold color called Deep Cowslip 4. I also brought in the green and rust colors in the lamp by color washing random, faded stripes into the wall to give it an aged effect. Next I brought out the fireplace by applying a green Venetian Plaster to the wall around the fireplace. It brought out the wood mantle, and the slate surround and hearth. The color of the Venetian Plaster was custom mixed to compliment the greenish-blue slate.
I painted all the trim in Firewood, and then finshed the room by painting crown molding first with a deep green and random strokes of metallic gold paint. Next I applied crackle, and the top coat of Firewood paint. The effect is an aged crown with the green and gold showing through the cracks in the paint. I installed the crown at the ceiling to finish off the room. I rearranged their art work to further compliment the room.
The room is now comfortable, brighter, and much more interesting.
