How much were you influenced by the work of the designers on TS? Was it as quick and easy as it looks on the show?

Several years ago, dh and I painted "tiles" on our outdoor concrete patio. (Ala Gen in a basement room.) The next year we added on a real deck, but it looked ok temporarily. I already knew that the show had more crew helping than the 2 homeowners, and we took the time to do it "right" (which couldn't have been done in 2 days, allowing for cleaning, sealing, prepping, painting, sealing again, etc.) so it was not as quick and easy as it appeared on the show.
I might have taken some things Vern or Laurie did into consideration, but can't think of any examples right now. No weird things stuck on our walls. No painted kitchen cabinets or appliances. No Beetlejuice rooms either. If Doug's venetian plaster stuff isn't quickly becoming so "last year" I might like to try that in one of our bathrooms. Would love to spend some $$ and redo our master bedroom drapes with something Laurie would do. (Budget can be more than a buck a yard.)

Trading Spaces and While You Were Out has inspired a volunteer group in Knoxville, Tennessee to redecorate rooms for children who are critically ill and homebound. The rooms are amazing you can see some rooms at the nonprofit groups website specialspaces.org
TLC please visit the site and see if you can help this merry band of crazy design people give these children and their families an amazing day and room!

Oh ya. TS stirred up what was already seeded in me. I bet you can't guess who's style I was influenced by the most? On hint, he was there one minute, and gone the next! What an impact he would have had if given a chance to really run with it.

The only thing that bugged me with the inspiration that TS would bring is when I would deal with it on my job. I work in hardware, (big surprise) and people would try to do things that they had seen on the show. Like paint over wallpaper or paint a linoleum floor. Of course I don't agree with those methods. But people have to understand.....48 hours! 1000 dallors! It's really lame when they think that they are going to be happy with it in the end. The lady that wanted to paint linoleum went on one day about how ignorant I was for not knowing that you could do it. She started to tell me that I needed to learn about TS. I respectfully replied, Ya, I've heard of it. But I can't teach people short cuts. I refuse!

Hi hardwarejane, My guess, Jon? The couple of Zebra stripe blocks, may have a touch of Doug, as well as the geometric blocking overlapped squares, but only minimal Doug.It is unfortunate if one of your favorites is no longer there.I am so happy Doug Wilson, my all time favorite since the first episodes of year one of Tr Spaces,is still on,( diff 3 shows,2 are his own), and worked incredible hard to achieve a ton of success. You may have not heard/seen the last of Jon,if he is determined, he may reappear on another network? dawfan

All I can say amateurs is take into consideration that these folks are pros and have lots of help. Kudos for the treat jobs you have done on your rooms. I myself did a very small bathroom and it turned out really great. I will post some pics as soon as I find them. By the way, I saw Edward on a paint commercial. What did he do with his beautiful hair? I think he looks great, but I miss the pony tail.
Luck to all Joy
