I have been watching all of these shows for years, and I love all of them.
I have been living in the Bay Area for about 7 years. For the last year and a half I have lived in East Oakland, and I have to say that I have never lived anywhere in my life that has so many stray mistreated animals roaming the streets.
I see dogs on a DAILY basis in my neighborhood, walking around all beat up and hungry looking. Small dogs, little dogs... it doesn't matter.
One time last year there was a male pit bull chained to a tree in the park near my house. he had wounds all around his neck from the chain, which was padlocked on to his neck. He had wounds all over his body and it looked like his ears had been burned off. I brought him some food and other neighbors brought him water and food as well. I pet him once, but I was too afraid to get too close. He seemed to be nice, but you never know...
My neighbors and I called the police "non emergency" line, which is the only way to get in contact with Animal Control in Oakland, for close to 7 hours.
After 7 hours I began to get frustrated so I posted a plea for help on Craigslist hoping a PitBull rescue would come out and get him. SOmeone finally came out late at night, but hey said he was already gone. We don't know if he was ever picked up, or if someone took him.
I have called about dogs in my neighborhood numerous times, and they never come.
I have tried to approach the smaller dogs, because the Oakland Animal shelter has a "drop box", but all of these dogs seem terrified of humans, and run away when I walk towards them. There was a small little mutt dog running in and out of High Street (a busy road) nearly getting hit by multiple cars.
I can't stand it anymore!! Why is it so bad here in Oakland? We need a show to come here... becaus eit is obvious that my city has a serious lack of funds in the Animal Care department.
What can I do?
Don't even get me started on the huge population of feral cats in my neighborhood.....
