Back when Animal Cops was filming in other cities I thought hey maybe they'll come to San Francisco. They did and here we are. I walk dogs at the shelter and I have seen many happy endings. People might not get their animals back, there's crying, and animals are mistreated but when they get to the shelter that's where you get to see people's faces light up when they take home their new best friend.
There was a PitBull named Ace that I was very attached to. He was 2.5 months when he got there and 3 months or so had passed by and he still hadn't gotten adopted. It seemed like out of no where a family who had a dog who looked just like him and even had the same name adopted him. A coincidence or fate I thought. Even though I didn't get to meet the people, (I didn't go to the shelter that day) or say goodbye to him I am happy that there are people who love him as much as I did (or still do.)
This is one of the many stories that I see happen. The adopters are so happy that they write emails and send about how happy they are with their new dog, how the dog is doing and thank everyone for their help.
The people who adopted the kittens and the guy who adopted the duck were obviously very happy with their new pets. I don't deny that there aren't stories that are sad but happy endings outweigh the sad ones!
I think a lot of people are missing the point. there is a disclaimer at the start of this show warning viewers of emotionally volatile material. Yes, animals get put down. that is the sad and very real fact of animal shelters. maybe the fury displayed here will encourage people to support their local shelters instead of trawling petshops. I wish there were enough homes for all the poor creatures that end up in every shelter in the states but there is not. ACC is not a killing machine it is an animal shelter doing its best. Thanks for the positive comments too. most of all I want every one to understand that their passion is wonderful. Its people like you who get laws changed and maybe one day we won't need shelters or animal cops because every animal has a loving home. Just something to think about...
unfortunately from the numbers I hear from SFACC alot of the calls they get are dog bites. Ever since the Dianne Whipple case the courts are flooded with vicious and dangerous cases.
You kind of kill the positive flow of this thread when you begin posts with "unfortunately." Why can't we focus on the positive things? Instead of the negativity. I don't deny that dog bites aren't a serious thing but what does that have to do with what people were talking about before?
From what i've seen on SF, pitbulls are better treated than other cities, besides New York (best place to own a dog).
I love the episode where one SF worker adopted a pitbull. She was very knowledgeable and loves the breed.
A recent show has two dogs reportedly biting an elderly couple. They brought in a behaviorist to determine if one dog did the biting, and her conclusion was that it was the Mixed shepard, not the pitbull. It was such a positive press to see that an animal expert understand this breed.
I was surprise to hear so many negative comments about SF, but then again, I've only seen 3 episodes. I'll be sure to catch more.
In stead of being glad that another dog did the biting, why not be glad when no dog bites? How come . You were glad to see that it was not the Pittbull, but the shepard?
I'm not glad that any dog bites. It's obvious that I do not sit there hooray and horrah about a dog being put down. I love all dogs. I am simply glad that the behaviorist understand the dogs w/o using stereogype of a particular breed. Please do not put words in my mouth.
If the pitbull was found to have done the deed and bit the elderly couple, I am in favor of putting that dog down regardless of breed.
