My hubby and I just purchased our first home a little over a two months ago. It was a repo. but it has good bones. We love to come home to a house that makes you feel like you are on vacation, so we have decided to go with a "Wild Kingdom Vacation" theme for the entire house.
The first room we did was the living room that is more traditional with soft lemon mirange walls and coconut white ceilings and trim. The couch and love seat are overstuffed floral print. The coffee table is a solid teak wood hand carved "working elephants" piece that my parents bought when they were stationed in Thiland. The end tables are round with classic soft lines. Its very tranquil.
Then on to the next room..... we thought what should it be..... in the middle of our thoughts the phone rang..... its the in-laws and they are coming to visit in June..... So the next room is the guest room.
Let me begin by saying the prev. owner painted the entire room floor to ceiling (and I do mean floor.. carpet.....it was awful) blue. That includes the vents and light switches blue. And not a pretty blue a more in your face blue. It was horrible.
So we began the guest room and the end result is breath taking.
We started by ripping out the carpet.... bye bye..
Then began the ceilings (after priming the entire room)they are now coconut white along with the doors and trim. The walls are now a med. brown venitian plaster. The walls are wonderful... they look very aged and old world like. Its amazing what the veitian plaster can do to a room. Then the ceiling fan went in, its Oak stained a med. cherry color traditional style with a aged globe that has a marbled apperance. Then electrical went in..all the switches and plugs had to be fixed and updated and the vents that I was able to salvage thanks to Dawn power spray went in. Now the carpet.. we went with a waffle print linen color berber carpet. Now it was time for the fun stuff. Filling in the room WAHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOO.
The bed was first to come in.... we made a 5'tall cheeta print headboard with natural oak wooden buttons to create the tuffted look. Then the bedding... its a palm tree patten with differnt cheeta and zebra and other animal print boarders. That we got at Walmart of all places. WAHHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOO for walmart.
Then dresser..... its a custom Oak stained med. cherry dresser with matching mirror. Its a piece that my grandfather made for my grandmother before she passed away. Then the dressing screen... it too is Oak with med. cherry stain that has leather inserts. Then draperies. We had to go with a room darkening mini blind because the heat in AZ is awful in the summer and we have alot of sun all the time. But I camoflauged them with silk cinnamon panels and a cheeta print sheer swag with black rotiron fenneals.
Then my absolute favorite thing...... assorizing.... WAHHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOO. I found wonderful leather elephants with iroy tusks to place around the room. And made a mosaic bed tray that has various shades of brown, green, white and cinnamon color glass tiles. Its placed on the bed with a newspaper that I aged with tea and a coffee cup and saucer in crisp white. My mom who is a floral designer made me a wonderful floral piece with Palm leaves and various other florals native to the tropical island. (I dont know much about flowers but its beautiful) I then made a silk pillow for the bed in the cinnamon color .
When my in-laws come we are placing Andies mints with toffee on the pillows.
The room is finished........ Its breath taking.
Now for the next room....... The office.... boy this is fun....
Have a great weekend ya'll

I cant imagine spending the time to perfect the intricacies of the guest room for my inlaws to use, before I finish the rest of the actually used rooms of the house! (like your bedroom, office, dining room, bathroom?) .. Personally I would have told the inlaws on the phone to wait a bit before coming for an overnight stay, or I would throw some airmattresses on the floor :P

But the room does sound very elegant and exquisite! The kind of detail I would expect for a master bedroom! Pictures would be lovely Smile
