From what I've seen of the show, the cameramen are just supposed to film what happens. They aren't supposed to interfere at all. If the chimp does something dumb and gets himself killed, then they are supposed to let it happen.
But on one show, a chimp was by himself, in the middle of nowhere, and gets bit by a poisonous snake. If he didn't get antivenom immediately, he would die. Then, out of nowhere, 2 workers appear, and carry him away to give him antivenom.
I have no problem with the cameraman calling the workers to save the chimp. I think he did the right thing.
But on the show, they tried to make it look like somehow the workers just accidently came upon him in the middle of nowhere, right after he was bit, and somehow knew he was bit by a poisonous snake.
Wrong show, that's Orangutan Island. Different great ape. It's posible the workers were WITH the camera crew, since I seriously doubt that they let inexperianced camera crews run around the orangutans unsupervised. The camera crew could have filmed it, then you see the workers. Personally, I don't think it's cheating anyway, since this is not a natural setting like say "Meerkat Manor" or "Lemur Kingdom". These are basically captive animals, being rehabbed.
