Hi singleandluvinit, hope your birthday was great and you had a good (and safe)time. Yep, married since 1979. Party on young friend your life is still ahead of you
Well, I’m a complete and total failure when it comes to Stone’s cooking philosophy. He clearly states and even set-up his cookery book to reflect a course of meals according to the seasons. Out of the seventy-two recipes, I’ve cooked and photographed forty-one since September.
I’ve obviously gone out of the current season… and I’ve invested a small fortune at Sur La Table and Williams and Sonoma. This coming from a girl who does not cook; but when she did, only used one Le Creuset oven and one wooden spoon.
Right then, statistically most women at the end stages of a graduate degree get pregnant. At least most of my female professors over the years did and why not? There’s a lot of down time with days of researching, writing, gestating… Or they get addicted to serial television shows like soap operas.
What did I do last week-end? Drove to Newport beach, picked out a victim, brought him home and murdered him… I only screamed once, when he ran across the kitchen counter and dropped to the floor. “Satan,” my big red-rock crab, settled down once he hit the boiling water… This week-end the killing binge continues with a lobster.
Noreen50: Have you got your book yet? Mine is just about falling apart… I staple each photo to the corresponding page. I take copious notes, including a few curse words, as well as the name of the music CD which helps me get through it all; Snow Patrol and Lentils, Audioslave and Chocolate, Flaming Lips and Pasta, Beethoven and Truffles, Muse and Mushrooms, Chopin and Champagne. The lobster will get Foo Fighters…

Hi catherinecourtney, after much confusing, I won't go into it , hubby had something to do with it. I will get it by the middle of next week. Is Surfing the Menu on DVD? I would love to get that.
Hi singleandluvinit, I wish I could have been there. Sounds like you had a marvalous time. Sounds like my 50th, I lighted some fireworks I had leftover from the 4th, after that I don't remember much except hubby saying "Will you just please go to sleep"
Hi singleandluvinit, we met in a darkroom, as in back in 1978, we worked in photo/slide processing, we would "splice" together all the undeveloped films together in the dark for developing into photos and slides. He had a 1974 TR-7 sports car made by Britsh Leyland ( they don't make them anymore) it was a 3rd shift job (night). I admired his car but didn't know who owned it and said whoever drives the red TR-7 I want a ride. And thats how we met. I can't tell what went on in the darkroom after we met use your imagination.
Noreen50: Yes, The Surfing the Menu series is on DVD but it only plays on PAL (Region 4) DVD systems. However, I've had no trouble watching it on my computer DVD.
When I ordered it via ABCshop.com.au I asked the fellow if he often had people ordering the series from the States. He said I was the only one and thought it a bit odd...
Right then... The Surfing the Menu series I and series II cost $39.95 ea. (aus) and series III cost $30.95 (aus). Shipping expenses are a killer! It took almost a month with priority service and tracking.
Good luck if you go for it! I found it helpful to learn by watching him do the same recipes on the Surf Menu series as opposed to the THC series. I think because there is a bit more concern with serious instruction as opposed to sexual chemistry... The whole thing is packaged to what I believe to be a different target audience.
Speaking of sexual chemistry, tonight the roasted sea scallops (Cooking with Curtis p.67) insisted on drugs, promiscuous sex and rock and roll. They were wearing leather, smoking cigarettes and tossing back tequila shots. They had me up against the kitchen counter, threatening bodily harm. I obliged them with the soundtrack to Trainspotting.
Catherinecourtney, thank you soo much for the info, you are font of knowledge, I will look into the dvd. As for the scallops, sounds right up my alley, except the leather, I find it chafes. I will also check out your musical selection.
Noreen50: Upon reflection of my previous post, I hope I made it clear that I'm not pregnant nor am I addicted to soap operas. I've more or less become a murderess of crustaceans?
you guys are too funny, any suggestions on where to order the Surfing the Menu series, for me living in Canada? or maybe just the same place you suggested?
Hi catherinecourtney, I didn't think that at all. You are a educated professional. I'm looking at market sales papers now. Going to boil me up one of those ocean bugs, probably lobster, yes, $8.99lb priced reasonable. Haven't decided what will go with it though.
They make a good team together, wish Ben would come state side too. Then they could tour North and South America together, that would make for an excellent show.
Thanks for linking that, noreen50! I totally agree with you that they're a good team, and it'd be cool to see another Surfing the Menu in this part of the world.
For whatever it's worth... I find Ben a little immature, although he's several years older than Curtis. I also think he's a bit of a blow hard and annoying at times. His recipes and cooking style are far more loosey goosey <technical term> than Curtis'.
In comparison, Curtis behaves in a more serious and intelligent manner when it comes to interacting with the people they meet along the journey, as well as with the recipes he demonstrates.
I'm not saying Curtis lacks playfulness, it's just more of a wry, dry cheeky humor... I don't know if there is any "love lost" between these two fellows. Ben completed season IV in New Zealand with another co-host.
I guess what I'm saying is that there seems to be a subtle undercurrent, seen on camera, which one can sort of read between the lines... I can't imagine them getting together for a tour of the United States. Then again, money... money... money.
Three years is a long time for a dude between the ages of 28 and 30. A lot happens in those years... and well, you get to see it all right there on camera.
In the beginning of season I, Curtis is still a boy, and I'm not talking just physically... However, at the end of season III he's evolved into a grown man with a confident and secure sense of himself.
Cat, ya got to learn how to use this delete key <delete, delete, delete>...
