Bailey is still pacing, i thought more exercise would help it but it isnt.he just wont sit still. like after we get back from a walk, me might lay down for like 10 minutes but not for long.i cant stand it!!!! he just wont stop, from one room, to the other one, i cant stand it and to tell you the truth for once i dont know why he is doing it! i mean, i walk him evry day almost(some days i cant cuz like its raining or somthin, but every other day i walk him) we go to the baseball park and he even gets to play with other dogs there EVERY DAY! if i had a tred mill i would put him on that but i dont have one.

i think he picked up this behavior in the pound cuz he was there for 6 months in a cage with nothing to do, so i think thats where it all started, but i dont see any reason for him to do it now. i mean, he even has toys and bones to keep him bussy while he is inside

anyone have any ideas why he is doing this and how i can stop it cuz its driving me crazy!!!

i dont know why he is doing it thats what is bothering me most

Didn't you tell us that Bailey had been treated for heartworm shortly after you got him? Did he suffer any long term heart damage that might be making him uncomfortable when he is lying down? After he completed the treatment did you have him rechecked after the required 4 to 5 month period?

"AFTER TREATMENT OF AN ACTIVE HEARTWORM INFECTION, IT IS IMPORTANT TO ANTIGEN TEST THE DOG 4-5 MONTHS LATER TO INSURE THAT ALL WORMS HAVE BEEN KILLED. AS MENTIONED, YOUNGER FEMALE WORMS ARE ESPECIALLY RESISTANT AND ONE MAY HAVE TO WAIT FOR THEM TO AGE BEFORE THEY BECOME SUSCEPTIBLE TO THE DRUGS USED."

Have you talked to your vet about the pacing? The problem may be physical rather than behavioral.

we did have him checked after the treatment and he was clear of all worms. we are going back to the vet soon to get baileys shots sence he is over due, so i can ask him then if we dont find another reason for this.

the vet said sence bailey was only about 2 when we got him so the vet said this was a good thing he was young cuz he couldnt have had it for a realy long time so he should be able to make a full recovery un like a dog that has had it for 3 or 4 years.

i dont think its physical anyway. when its time for bed when i go outstairs he finds his spot on the bed. he barly moves durring the night, he sleeps all night and even i have trouble waking HIM up!! Wink

just about 6 months ago we adopted a lab mix that was obviously abused Frown. He's a very scared dog still a little of strangers to this day...but when we brought him home the first time...for a while like a month he could not Relax! he would sleep standing up...or if he was laying down on the couch to sleep he would get up and start pacing around then go back and lay down. So is it an insecurity problem? it probably isnt if you have had him for a long enough time.

I walk my dogs everyday, 3 times a day, 21 times a week rain or sun, blizzard or hail. I wake up 30-60 min early in the morning's before school just to walk the dogs.

If you find no other solution start walking him more. I have to cancel movies and time with friends for my dogs who I'm sure are no where near as energetic as Bailey. I have homework and other pets to look after too.

I had gotten a German Shepherd who had been extremely abused. He had many different owners prior. He was two when I got him. He paced and seemed uncomfortable all day too. No problems at night. I had to give him alot of TLC. He had to feel he was secure in his surroundings. His pacing diminished once he realized he had a permanent home with lots of love and no abuse. He is now six and is so spoiled he doesn't even know he is a dog at times. The main thing is to make Bailey feel secure. I would follow Joe around when he paced asking him what was wrong. I would love on him and talk to him until he seemed calm. It did not take long for him to stop his pacing.
