I recently adopted a 6yr old shepard/husky mix from a local shelter. Junior is a lovable dog, good with kids, cats and other dogs but he has one really strange habit. Daily, he seems to go into a 3-5 minute "daily doggy psychosis" mode where he gets really ripping through the backyard or the house and he will sometimes jump at you (he normally is not a jumper)and if you didn't know of his normally loveable demeanor, he seems really mean. What could be the cause of this, or is this just part of the breed? He really is kind of scary when he gets like this. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
We have a large fenced in back yard that he gets to run around in and we also walk him everyday. On occassion he even gets to go to the "good dog park" at one of our local county parks that unfortunately is not too close to my home, especially given the gas prices. I also have a teenager at home who plays with him. I don't know what it is but it is the weirdest thing. Seems like the last week he has only gotten in psychodog mode a few times. Maybe he just needed to get settled in a little more. Do know one thing, whoever got rid of him was the crazy one. He is the most loveable thing. Wouldn't trade him for the world.
You should walk Junior at least 3 times. Huskies were breed for pulling sleds so they need TONS of exersise. Even if it would be enough to tire him out he will still need it 3 times. Not all at once but over the corse of the day. I have an old husky who still needs 3 walks despite her bad hips. He also needs to get setteled in more as you said. Hope this helped!! ^.^
