You obviously aren't going to be showing or breeding so there's no point.
But I want a pediggred show cat
You know how bad that sounded? First you don't spell pedigree right and it just shows your vain selfishnesss. You don't want to save a life because you want a purebred, you want a show cat.
If you went to a breeder you'd buy a kitten with the potential to become a show cat. Do you know anything at all about showing? You don't even know what breed you want. And when you show an animal you breed after good wins. You aren't planning on breeding are you?
Is it because you want to be able to boast to your friends about my cat won this, my cat's father is a great champion etc. etc.
You can do the same with your rescue kitten. He lived through this horrible fire, he still loves people after so much abuse, look at what he can do etc.
I really hope you change your mind. There are too many homeless cats around and you want to make more. Disgusting.
Some people just prefer breeders than the pound. And I won't bred my cat. you can still show your cat if it is spayed or neutered you know. I have been interested in showing dogs or cats and participating in events with these wonderful animals all my life. My aunt did aglity with shelties and i always admired her. Its not selfish some people really just perferto do things therer own way.
Laura, it seems that your are being more selfish than chimes. A pedigreed cat has many desirable qualities. Just like dogs, the mood and temperment is much, much more predictable. Often times, a cat from a shelter will most likely be of an unknown breed. And it's impossible to determine the personality or temperment of a cat while it is being kept in a cage. You can advise her to get from a shelter, but its up to her. Remember, she is the one that is going to be living with the cat for the rest of its life not you, so its her decision.
Besides Chimes has to start somewhere. Chimes, if you are interested in showing, then I encourage you to go for it! It can be very rewarding for you and your cat. I advise you to get a siamese or abbysinian. They are very, very friendly cats. They love people and are very sociable, not at all like the stereotypical lazy, aloof, independant picture that most people associate with cats. They are also short haired so they are easy to groom.
If you are thinking of getting a dog to show, go to some local shows and talk to people who are showing the breed. Many of them can lead you to a wonderful breeder.
Before you get a dog (if you decide to get one) learn the standard. Pick up some books on showing (try the Absolute Beginners Guide to Showing Your Dogs)
Ok, I'm feeling kind of dumb. I know nothing about cat shows. Can someone please tell me how they are ran?
