About two years ago, I adopted three abbysinian guinea pigs. Then I got involved in 4-H and showing (not breeding)them. The other day, my one lil girl won best pet in show. Now my parents are letting me purchase a pure-bred. I wanted to adopt, but it won't work again because I want to show this one. I am looking for a long haired breed, and was wondering if anyone knew of any websites that list breeders by state. A reliable one though. I am primarily interested in a Coronet and I am having an impossible time trying to find someone in my area that breeds them. Thanks!

You might also try a dark hair Peruvian or Silkie. They do well in showing, but the white ones don't due to staining that is impossible to get out. Good Luck!

I wonder if you can find a "blueing" shampoo like we use with the dogs only for guinea pigs. It makes the white shine white, and the colors shine brillant.

there might be a "blueing" shampoo, but we use baby shampoo for regular bathing. I've never tried it, but apparently you can use Sprite to get stains out of white hair. You just pore the Sprite on the pig and let it sit for a few minutes before you rinse it off. I don't know if it works though because I've never tried.

Me either. I did use a deluting cat blue shampoo. Cats are more sensitive than dogs, but still- I am not sure.

Peruvians, silkies, coronet, Texel, Merino, Alpaca, Boucle and Lunkarya.

The Texel, boucle and lunkarya are curley coated breeds.
