I could not think of a better pet for a 12 year old! My daughter as a child had them most of the time. They are very docile if hand raised especially and sweet little pets. The peruvian is fabulous, but I did keep the coat trimmed a little. They are a true joy and actually pretty smart! ( especially when it comes to food.) I am attaching a link I thought was very informative and hope it helps. My daughter adored hers, and even had one that lived to 9 years old! http://www.pimms-pages.co.uk/breeds.asp
Hello! Guinea Pigs are wonderful pets!!! I am 15 and have four little girls and my sister is in the middle of getting one and she is 7. I am also involved with 4-H. If you live in the United States, it is great fun. Look for an extension office in your county. I also show my guinea pigs. Yes, there are guinea pig shows, and they are lots of fun! Try this website www.acbaonline.com They have a spot so you can see all of the breeds. I have three abbysinnians that are mixes. I also have a long haired breed. A peruvian like borzoimom mentioned. There are also two other breeds of long haired cavies: a silkie, or a coronet. Peruvians have hair sweeps on the sides, front and rear. A silkie only has hair sweeps on the back and sides. The hair grown from the head back. A coronet is just like a silkie, but they have a rosette (swirl) on top of their head. If you want a pure bred try this website cavy breeders You can search by state or breed. Hope this helps! Good luck and feel free to ask any more questions! I would be happy to help!
Guinea PIgs are a wonderful pet for a twelve year old! They don't bite, not usually" And they can become really attached to their owners. However if you're planning to get one you need to get two They enjoy colorful shavings and music! It actually makes them more comfortable with colorful shavings! They can see in color. I hope that they work out for you and i would recommend getting one. If you clean the cafe once a week they don't smeel bad either good luck!
I think they make the best pets for a 12 year old or for someone who wants to get a pet and its their first time getting one. They are easy to care for and love. I have only one but I'm always playing with her after school and at night when I'm relaxing and watching Tv. They are humerous and love people. They are actually alot of fun to take care of.
