How would you consider someone as bad pet owner? Most pet owners feel guilty for not spending enough time with their pets...like me...I have a Rainbow Lorikeet but I don't know what do with it besides neck scratches, wrestling and take it out side on my finger. But most of the time she prefers to stay in the cage and chew her toys.....she doesn't like coming out that much....So I end up hardly giving her any attention....I feel really guilty..

Ive never had a bird so I dont know how you are suppose to pay attention to it. I know that you should have it on your finger so that its use to human attention. Other than letting it hang out on your finger do you clean the cage, make sure it has fresh food and water, and toys to keep its interest? If so you sound like a good owner to me.

I clean the cage everyday as I can't stand the smell of stinky bird cages Frown
Fresh food and water...Kaytee exact is as fresh as always.
She has a toy but she prefers to destroy her bed and perches.
I'm not sure about what makes a good owner but I do know some people who are horrible owners.

No, birds relly are a bit antisocial. But dont feel bad. It sounds like your bird really likes you, so keep doing wat your doing.

If she likes to destroy things you should give her paper or toliet paper tubes that she is allowed to shread. Birds usually like that. You can also give her baths. Don't actually put her in the water but let the faucet run a little so she can play in it. I know people that let their birds in the shower with them. Just make sure that she gets dried off.

I had 3 birds Well not at the same time but still you get the point. I used to read to them and talk them, like you would to a bay. They seemed to enjoy it alot. SmileJust a suggestion

get your bird to get interested in you. give he or she treats like crackers and butter free popcorn. you might want to play music near it. and whisper a lot to it, since birds are so curious, it will sit there for hours just trying to figure out what ur saying Smile

Don't worry, you are not a bad owner! Smile Some birds just prefer to spend more time by themselves. If your really worried you could try moving the cage (if it's not already) into a room where the most people gather, like the living room or something. That way even though your bird isn't out of it's cage it can still be included in the social gatherings.
