Obviously you have similair experience that I have. I have a strange situation. I have a 9 month old Borzoi puppy, quite full of himself. The problem is this boy has a fascination for pillows. He loves to unstuff them.. lol. And loves the taste of bitter apple. Got another remedy? He doesnt chew on anything else.Including his bedding or comforters. Its just the little throw pillows. Short of taking them alllllllll off until he grows up, I was wondering if you had another remedy.

I hope you do not mind me answering you since i'm not agilityk9trainer, but I have a solution you could try. It's basically the distraction method. Get a noise maker, like a horn, loud bell, or one of my favorites: a couple of pennies in an empty soda can with the top taped. When you catch him in the act of ripping a pillow, use the noise maker and tell him no. Then give him a command that he knows for sure and is relaible to follow like sit, and then reward him and give him something like a Kong or nylabone. Giving him the command to follow after distracting him ensures that he won't get confused that you might be rewarding him for chewing. And of course the chew toy is to replace the pillow as something to chew on that is appropriate.

Thanks sugarbird, but I failed to mention something. The noise method would work with a sporting or working breed, as they are not as noise sensitive as a sighthound. If I do this with a sighthound, two problems will show up. Number one- the dog will associate being in trouble with my return. That will create seperation anxiety. And number two, if a sighthound is afraid of noise, you will end up with one squirrly dog... I think I will just take off the pillows in the area he can access when I leave the room, or do a down stay when I leave for things like laundry. It doesnt happen all the time. I use to just call him with me. But a 3 foot dog at the shoulder cant go with you all the time. Good idea though- one I have used with other breeds in the past. Borzois are a rare breed, and you would not know this. Keep up the good postings. I enjoy reading them!

borzoimom, not too long ago agilityk9trainer mentioned that she only has the time to read and post under the dog dish topic. You might want to try posting this there under a new thread.

The only solution I can offer is the same one you came up with--to put the pillows away for awhile. Big Grin

Ok time for my 2 cents worth, and that may be all that it is worth. But there was a time that we noticede Corgi went wild on certain home made throw pillows too. Then we notice that it was the ones with a certian type of stuffing...
We looked at what the filling was made of and noticed that it was a urea based product and the others were not... Wether this is actually the reason or not????????????
But it may be something.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm- you know what? Your 2 cents maybe have been jackpot gold. Thats what mine are... lol... Good job corgiman- I will take one of the pillows as a potential sacrifice, and put different stuffing in. The dog may still smell it though in the cover.
