What brand of dog food would you recomend for a puppy, and what would you recomend for an active medium sized adult dog? What brand of dog food do you feed your dog? And is it a combo of wet & dry food? Also, do you feed your dog once a day? Twice a day?
Thank you for reading this, and responding, if you choose to do so!

Lately I've been feeding my dog beneful, and he likes it more them iams, but thats just him.most dog foods(like iams) have puppy food. My dog is a adult shih tzu, and i feed him once a day. and I also like to feed him wet food every once in a while, he loves it!
I feed my dogs Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul. I recommend it for any dog. It's full of real meat products and not corn, fillers and other garbage that's in most dog foods that people feed to their dogs. Any thing you can buy at Wal-Mart is TERRIBLE for your dog.
I feed dry food, treats, all natural, USA made pig ears and chews occasionally too.
I feed my dogs once a day, in the morning, they each get a specific amount for their activity level and weight.
I feed my dogs once in the morning, and once in the evening. We feed them pro-pac dog food. It has good ingredients in it; like, blueberries, potatoes, meat, peas and many other that I can't think of.
I recommend Eagle Pack, Wellness, Canidae, Chicken Soup, Solid Gold, Innova, and California Natural for dogs and puppies. All of these foods have high quality ingredients and no fillers. My dogs are currently eating Canidae All Life Stages. I had the best results with Eagle Pack Holistic Tuna, Anchovy, and Salmon blend. All of the food I've fed is dry. I also feed my dogs twice a day. Any less and they'll get mad.
How to grade your dog's food: Start with a grade of 100:
1) For every listing of "by-product", subtract 10 points
2) For every non-specific animal source ("meat" or "poultry", meat, meal or fat) reference, subtract 10 points
3) If the food contains BHA, BHT, or ethoxyquin, subtract 10 points
4) For every grain "mill run" or non-specific grain source, subtract 5 points
5) If the same grain ingredient is used 2 or more times in the first five ingredients (i.e. "ground brown rice", "brewer’s rice", "rice flour" are all the same grain), subtract 5 points
6) If the protein sources are not meat meal and there are less than 2 meats in the top 3 ingredients, subtract 3 points
7) If it contains any artificial colorants, subtract 3 points
8 ) If it contains ground corn or whole grain corn, subtract 3 points
9) If corn is listed in the top 5 ingredients, subtract 2 more points
10) If the food contains any animal fat other than fish oil, subtract 2 points
11) If lamb is the only animal protein source (unless your dog is allergic to other protein sources), subtract 2 points
12) If it contains soy or soybeans, subtract 2 points
13) If it contains wheat (unless you know that your dog isn’t allergic to wheat), subtract 2 points
14) If it contains beef (unless you know that your dog isn’t allergic to beef), subtract 1 point
15) If it contains salt, subtract 1 point
Extra Credit:
1) If any of the meat sources are organic, add 5 points
2) If the food is endorsed by any major breed group or nutritionist, add 5 points
3) If the food is baked not extruded, add 5 points
4) If the food contains probiotics, add 3 points
5) If the food contains fruit, add 3 points
6) If the food contains vegetables (NOT corn or other grains), add 3 points
7) If the animal sources are hormone-free and antibiotic-free, add 2 points
8 ) If the food contains barley, add 2 points
9) If the food contains flax seed oil (not just the seeds), add 2 points
10) If the food contains oats or oatmeal, add 1 point
11) If the food contains sunflower oil, add 1 point
12) For every different specific animal protein source (other than the first one; count "chicken" and "chicken meal" as only one protein source, but "chicken" and "" as 2 different sources), add 1 point
13) If it contains glucosamine and chondroitin, add 1 point
14) If the vegetables have been tested for pesticides and are pesticide-free, add 1 point
94-100+ = A 86-93 = B 78-85 = C 70-77 = D <70 = F
Here are some foods that have already been scored:
I believe I am going to feed my pup Pedigree (I know many other people who have recomended this food). Both wet, and dry food. Just dry in the morning, and both wet and dry in the evening.
what should I feed my new dacshund puppy? I was thinking about royal canin. My mom feeds her cats and dogs that and the vet said that he has never in his 70years of work seen such healthy animals.

Pedigree really isn;t good at all and not amoung anything i saw anyone recommend. Anyone who recomends pedirgree has not looked at the ingredients.
Go to the Pedigree website and using the grading table we gave rate Pedigree, last i checked they all came out as F it's as bad as ol roy if not worse.

Thanks again!
It's funny because you really didn't pay any attention to our input because Pedigree is a terrible food. It's made of corn and fillers. When did dogs turn into herbivores? I didn't know they could live off corn rather then meat. Can you tell me what REAL meat products pedigree has in it? Now ask yourself, is that really what your dog wants to eat to be healthy?
my dog has been eating royal canie 4 ever i like it because it has protein, fibr and by the look of my dog's face when she gets done eating i said she needs more

Pedigree is horrible quality. I don't really get why people ask for input, then do the opposite of what is recommended.
All of my animals are fed Chicken Soup products. You don't really have to feed the puppy special puppy formula, he'll do just fine eating the same food as the adults. My general rule of thumb is if it can be purchased at walmart, it's no good.
I have 3 yorkies and they eat Royal Canin yorkie formula. Is this the best I could give them or is there some better that I could get bc I want the best there is??
ROYAL CANIN is a great food. I feed my pharaoh hound Royal Canin adult medium, my aussie Royal Canin adult medium, and my 12week old Mastiff puppy Royal Canin giant breed puppy(very hard to find food)

Okay; thanks again for telling me what you have to say on the subject, and even for the boarder-line rude responses, however; I understand what you're all saying, I did rather neglect what you guys said, although I DID read your input. And I did consider Royal Canin actually, looked at the web site, searched around. However, I want to feed my dog both Wet and Dry food, and most of the foods recommended do not (from what I have seen in my local pet stores) have wet foods. How do you suggest I go about that?
Also; I was recommended Pedigree by family and friends, who have healthy and happy pets. If they failed to go on the website and grade their dogs food, then okay I was given bad advice, and I was not smart by not knowing to go on, grade it, and look. However, I did not know that their websites showed what was in their foods, but now I suppose I am aware.
Most of you seem to give good recommendations to Royal Canin, and get good results from your dogs.
So does anyone know if Royal Canin DOES make wet food? I am going to go look at soon as I post this, but just in case I can't find it!
No, Royal Canin doesn't, but use their dry food and for wet food you could use Nutro Max or Nutro Natural Choice. I use Royal Canin Dachshund formula and it is such great food!!! I had a dachshund live to 22 years old on this brand.
