I have heard the same thing about Science Diet, but here's the rub there. I have recently been to three Vet's offices regarding for various cat issues, one even in another city and all of the dog and cat products they have for sell are Science Diet. So who are you ever to believe? I have recently taken on a family member's dog and was doing research for pet behavior problems for jumping and mouthing and found more than one site that said dogs eat poo sometimes simple because it tastes good to them, plain and simple. Try searching under dog behavior problems.
Vet's sell science diet because Hills is the MAKER of science diet and many of them are sponsored by hills. Those that are sponsored by Purina suggest proplan etc.
Heck many vets will tell you raw is bad, why? Because vets get their nutritional information on dogs from the Hills book in school is why. Your vet probably has as much proper knowledge unfortunately of a proper diet for your dog as your doctor has on an individual diet for a human.
my dog eats her poo too (hey, that rhymes!) i think it's trully disgusting, and so does my mom. she's 4 months old. i'm feeding her purina puppy chow. does anyone know if that's a good kind of food? should I try something else? I DON'T WANT TO FEED MY DOGS FOOD THAT'S NOT GOOD FOR THEM!!!!!!!!
Chambris- No purina puppy chow isn't good at all its a bunch of fillers. If you can get sometime more high grade like Canidae and Royal Cainn. I can't remember any more than these two right now but generally the ones that are better for them are pricey but you save in the long run because your dog accually eats less.
Knitterling- The canned pumpkin recommended will not help. That is for upset stomatchs a.k.a puking. And better dog food is higher priced as it has better ingredients which makes that dog less hunger making them eat less which means you have to buy less of it so in the end you are really saving money.
Listen when I used to feed Pedigree I had a 40lb a week for $20 which is about $80 a month. Thats for an english mastiff, bull mastiff and APBT/greyhound. When I switched to Canidae I spend $60 a MONTH for a 40lbs bag. Over time it can add up.
i used to have a sharpei who ate poo, my uncle found her she was a stray and he gave her to us. anyway she would eat her own poo and my cats poo also. so gross. well we were feeding her dog food and then my grandpa started feeding her leftovers from dinner every now and then and she seemed to be satisfied. if she did eat poo after that it was very very rare. i never heard of the pumpkin thing thats interesting.
i dont know which dog foods are good or not but i know my puppy hates science diet and always eats my other dogs food. my other dog eats beneful and she loves it. i dont know how good it is or not. im thinking to switch their food brand when the bag is done. we will see...
