I dont know about other readers/posters on this forum, but we are tired of winter. What type of activities do you all like to do with your pet during this cold, wet weather.

Actually I haven't been too sick of winter this time around because it really hasn't been bad at all. I was amazed that in Dec. and Jan. there were warm enough days I could take my dogs out and run around. Even on the days that we did have snow, they loved to be out running in it. But on the days that were too cold, they were content to have me case them around the coffee table and through the house.

I don't know about you guys but I live in a desert so it's rather annoying. We have 2 seasons, Summer and winter. There is no fall or spring inbetween. So in the summer, after about 4 monthes of weather up to 107 degrees and living in a swimming pool all day, we're sick of it and ready for winter. Then, winter comes, and about 4 monthes into winter where it's cold enough to make you put a sweatshirt on while still wearing shorts but not warm enough to go swimming, we're sick of it and ready for summer again. It's been raining lately though so I'm content at the moment.

You winter is a sweatshirt? God bless you! Mine is snow, ice, and cold. Good things the dogs like snow. When I let them out, they like to lay it in. But activities with such large dogs, in this weather is enough. They say it might get 50 degrees this weekend. I sure hope so. I know we all have cabin fever, and its time for a long walk in the woods!!! lol.. And uh worthless example- it was fun! lol...

Sorry, that's the only thing I hate about typing, you can't hear the sarcasim, so you never know if someone is serious or not. Sugarbird, I don't know how people only do the 2 seasons I like having 4, but I guess you get used to it after a while. My favoite seasons are spring and fall because it's not too cold, but it's not too hot either. Summers here are awful in my opinion because of the humidity. My b/f's aunt lives in CA and I was like "how can you live without seeing snow?" She said "I'll go to the mountains to see it because that's where it belongs." With the 107 temps. you don't have too much humidity do you?

I dont like the humidity either, and its hard to find things to do with the dogs as they have long coats. I live on the top of a mountain, and usually its not too bad, but hot here is 85. And yes- i was joking. I am a little bored right now, and my computer is my entertainment. Healing a sprained ankle stinks and my active dogs need more interaction that I can do inside.

That does put a damper on things when you can't do much. If I could control the weather, it would be 70-75 degrees, partly cloudy, rain every now and again, and like 40% humidity. That sounds good to me. The computer is pretty much my entertainment other than the dogs. They're entertainment in themselves.

yea I know the story.. Its getting better, but I miss taking my dogs for a good walk. Virginia is a nice state- almost never too hot, and usually not too cold but up on this mountain, the wind can really howl.. I have fish and dogs. Use to have parrots, and small animals, and cats. I have had pets all my life, and life is not life without a pet!

borzoimom, I have been curious of your location before and now we know. I live in the northern great plains, So. Dakota, and 3 weeks ago we had 50F for the high on a Monday and by the weekend (President weekend) we had 0 for the high and -20 for the lowsfor about 3 days straight.... Talk about pets and owners missing their outside time. All in all the winter has been milder then usual here, little snow and warmer then normal temps. But even with the cold temps Corgi still loves it when we have a fresh snowfall, especially if there is about 1 foot or so, then he can put the nose down and burrow through the fresh fluff.

I live in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia. My dogs love the snow, to the point I have to make them come in when I let them out. Two out of 3 of my dogs will lay down in it. I have a funny video of the puppy running into a 3 foot snow drift.. We have had mostly 20 degree weather. Its too cold to walk for the distance my dogs are use to ( two miles a day.) Plus I broke my leg earlier slipping in the yard, so its not up to snuff yet. Today it was a whopping 62 degrees! Can anyone say spring???

We love the spring, but then spring brings the melting snow and that means MUD!!!, and we all know what that means for us with low slung pooches, like corgi's and dachies, many bath. And many times scrubbing the floors and shampooing the carpets... Oh well I knew that this was the result....
But the first robin of spring was spotted on our walk yesterday... So yes it is coming...

I know, I love spring! Right now it's a little after 11pm and I can go out in a t-shirt. It's the humidity keeping it warm cause it rained yesterday. Luckily our yard stayed grassy through the winder, so I need not worry about mud.

Heehee, I'm really excited now. It might SNOW!!!! We only get snow here approx every 10 years so it's deffinitly something we get excited over. But no, I wasn't being the least bit sarcastic in my last post. I'm serious, we only have 2 seasons and yes, we only need a sweatshirt in winter. In summer, you practically live in a bikini in the pool. And about humidity...I love fog and moisture in the air as long as it's cold. It's horrible when it's 102 degrees farenheit and the humidity makes it feel like it's 110.

Hey corgiguy= I have a hint that works with my dogs. With these long coats, rain and mud and their speed in the yard, puts mud on them too. I cant bathe them that much or it will dry the coat out- plus they are as long as the tub. I got these moisture grooming towels at Petsmart. They are yellow, and they really take the mud off. Also there is a product called " The stuff" that if you spray them lightly with it after they are dry from a bath, it helps a TON to help get the mud off them. Its a silcone type base, and helps repel water and mud from the dog. Between that and the towels, and a thicker loose bath mat at the doors, it sure did help alot! Corgi's are so cute. Which type do you have?

Borzoimom, just a little update on the food change. My Papillon took to it well, but surprizingly my Toy Fox was reluctant to eat it at 1st. I haven't noticed a change in the coat or anything, but that will take a few weeks I guess. They're more willing to eat though. When it's feeding time and I ask if they're hungry they go nuts. Then when they hear the food in the bowl it's like "gimmie, gimmie, gimmie!" There's no food left behind anymore, they clean their plate now. So, I guess it does taste better to them.

I have a PWC about 2 1/2 yrs old.. Definately still a puppy in the Corgi frame of mind.. Here is a picture of him, the pic is kind of squewed for some reson.. Corgi Usually able to give him a rubdown with a towel but then there are the times that him knows that if he can get by us he gets to lead us on a chase through the house and thinking it is all a big game..

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh he is adorable!! My female use to do that because she wanted to lay by the fire. I got it stopped by having a cookie in my hand when she came in. Only took 3 days for her to figure out to wait.. Try that. I dont know how those towels are made, but they take the mud and water out in a flash. The "stuff" repels dirt. Try it- it works!
