I'm only posting out of curiosity...and boredom. What are the most popular breeds of dog in your area? What breeds/dogs do you see most on your walks?
Most popular around me are: Shepard mixes, some are striped!(brindle?) Goldens, lots of them are huge Rotties, one's dog aggressive Afghans, two nearby are big barkers Collies, once I saw 5 on one walk Tibetan Spaniels, some are such yappers Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, cute! German Shepards, new pup next door
Deffinitly alot of Chihuahuas and dachsunds. Alot of Chihuahua/dachsunds mixes too. Austrailian shephards are pretty popular too.
Other dogs in my area:
A pitbull-I think his name is Chance A rat terrier- Her name is tootsie. Some kink of poodle/terrier mix- name is lady A Japanese Jindo What appears to be a greyhound/Bordercollie mix A Basenji/Austrailian Shephard mix A german shephard Theres also alot of other, but they all look like they have three or four different breeds of dog in them .
The most popular breed in my area is actually a designer mutt. Bichon Shih Tzu mixes... most from the same local puppy mill dubbed the "Pooch Palace"
For purebreds, you see a lot of golden retrievers and border collies around the neighbourhood. In the dog show world, we always have big entries for dobies, boxers, shetland sheepdogs, whippets, and standard poodles. Weird seeing I hardly ever see these breeds around town.
lets see...pits are by far the #1 dog around here. 1 dachsund 1 poodle 1 pom 1 sheltie 3 dobermans 1 rottie puppy about 8 mutts some jack russels and countless pits...
round here there arnt many dogs, in the neighbourhood there are (not including mine) 1 jap chin 2 pugs 2 pit mix 1 german shep 2 shep mix 3 labs 1 golden and about 2 mutts (unknown mixes)
(thats including about 4 city blocks)
if you count my house you add 1 cockerspaniel and 1 chihuahua
The most popular breed in my area is by far, the Pitbull. Every Sunday, a bunch of us meet at a small park in the area, and they all play together. There a couple regulars (like me ), but different people come almost every time. There's about twenty of us every week, and some bring there other dogs too. I started bringing Kitty and Zyon, as well. We used to have a lot of people that didn't like Pitbulls in our neighborhood, but I think this really helped people get the idea that Pitbulls have love to give, too. It's really wonderful to see a park full of playing Pitbulls.
Pekeingese Maltese Shih Tzu Jack Russell Dobes/Rotties Labs/goldens Boxers German shepherds Westies and other small wirey terriers Saw a couple Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers at the dog park...and a Newfoundland... Mixes!
In my area there a lot of Chihuahuas, Labs, Goldens, A LOT of Yorkies, Greyhounds, and lots of different breeds from the hound group, cuz people like to hunt out here. I have a silky and everyone always mistakes him for a yorkie. Only one person I have talked to actually knows what a silky is......lol..~Lauren
I just want to say I think this a fun and interesting thread, I've always happened to notice how many people here in Southern Denmark have the same breeds of dogs.....
Lots of Labs (hunting is big here) Danish Swedish Farmdog Danish Chicken Dogs German Wirehaired Pointer Danish Chicken Dog (aka Danish Pointer) Great Danes French Bulldog Border Collies AmStaff (1 "breeder" in the area that I know of, but haven't really seen the dogs out anywhere) Cairn Terriers (almost all the old people have them!) German Shepherd Beagles Goldens 2 Aussies (mine and a friends, they are not common in Denmark, so we think it's so weird that the two of us ended up with them in the same town without knowing eachother first there's only about 5 breeders in the whole country)
But the most common have to be the hunting dogs..labs, pointers, beagles, etc. And then comes lap dogs/small dogs like cairn terriers and danish/Swedish farm dogs. Then the rest are scattered owned by a few people.
The popular dogs around here are thehunting/retrieving groups. Due to the sportsman climate. Then it goes toward the herding and working types to go with the cattle business. Then would be the toy / lap dog type with the retirees and city dwellers that are short on yard space.. I guess the ratio between the amount of purebred dogs and mixed would not differ that much...At least in my area
there are alot of golden retrevers around here. -Abby -Calvin -Some ladys dog that i met on a walk with her golden retrever -Some peoples dogs that keep getting loose and coming to our yard. one is a pure golden and the other is a golden/mastf mix. (HUGE dogs!)
i must say labs are all over the place. i used to like them but now im just sick of them. you cant go on a walk without seeing one or a mix of one.
labs of course a few goldens some rescued greyhounds cocker spaniel rotties (ones dog agressive and loves people and the other isnt good with people other than its owners but loves dogs) english setter and so on...
