My husband and I have a 10 year old female Golden Retreiver and about 5 months ago we adopted an approximately 7 month old mixed breed, female puppy. The puppy is very well behaved and never goes to the bathroom in the rest of the house but will occasionally pee in the middle of the night in the bed that we ALL sleep in!! We have caught her doing it once but most of the time we wake to wet spot in the bed. Aside from banning the puppy from the bed, any suggestions?

have you taken her to vet the to see if maybe she has a UTI because dogs will not pee where they sleep. I have a feeling that even if you ban her from your bed she will still have a peeing problem

Thanks for the advice, I will get her checked out immediately. Sadly though, she ONLY pees in the bed, which leads me to be it is psychological in some way.

is it a little pee like a dog marking its territory or a lot like a normal pee. Its still odd for a dog to pee where they sleep

Unless the older dog is doing something very specific I dont think that its a two dog issue. Either way it is really odd for a dog to pee where they sleep. Dog will never do their business where they eat or sleep

My older dog is as passive as they come so I don't think that is it. We took the younger dog to the vet and she said it was not a UTI but the dog is having trouble controlling her bladder muscles when she sleeps due to the fact we had her spayed. The vet prescribed Propalin. She talked a good talk but we currently live in a 3rd world country and the vets here are not the best...I miss the vets in the states! Any opinions on the vets diagnosis?

that actually makes sense
here is a site I found that backs up your vets diadnois
http://www.propalin.co.uk/introduction.htm

And here is a better site about Propalin
http://propalin.ca/en/propalin.html

Give your dog the medication and just really watch for improvement. I would have her stop sleeping in your bed and get her a different bed that has a removable cover for easy cleanup

Good News! My puppy has now been on Propalin for two weeks and we have been accident free for the same amount of time! We are ecstatic! We are going to try reducing the medicine to half what we are giving her now and see if it works. Thanks for everyones help!
