Well...both are good. Obviously dogs can play in your backyard every day while they might not go to the park as often, but both are great forms of exercise. The park is just a different experience because they're around many other dogs they don't live with.

They're somewhat better because your dog can play with many other dogs and socialize-which is very important to a dog's behavior and well-being.

Around here, i'd be too paranoid to take my dog to a dog park even if we had one. These people are so stupid, they don't get their dogs vaccinated or fixed and some idiot would take their dog even if it's dog aggressive. I go on walks in the neighborhood and play in our backyard or in the house.

I'm always going to state parks anyway. I live very close to 2 state parks and both allow dogs.
They are huge parks with trails, picknicing, camping, swimming and beautiful scenery too.
One of the parks is almost 4000 acres and allows dogs in the camping area. There are also other dogs there to play with. My dog and I like the state parks much better. We go hiking all the time.

I live adjorning a National Forrest. Even with 18 acres, I love talking a walk there anyway. I do have a funny story though. For those that dont know what a lure coursing muzzle is, its a muzzle like the ones they use on the grayhounds in racing. It keeps the dogs from getting so excited when racing, that they dont nip at another dog. Well anyway- with 2 our of 4 with a high pray drive, I put one on them when I am going somewhere I dont know what they might run into. Anyway- we ran into this guy that because two had it on, thought they were mean or something. A wire coursing muzzle looks nothing like a real one.
You meet all kinds at these things. And with people that different opinions, and wide ranges of knowledge with dogs. I would just avoid a park.
