I live in a medium sized town and we don't really have a dog park. I do take my dogs for walks around the neighborhood every day, but I think they might get tired of that. Any suggestions?

i dont have a park either. i wish i did.

change the route of your walk. take a "left" insted of a "right". diffrent each time so they will get new experences.

Try state parks. Many allow dogs and they have hiking trails, ponds, etc. I live in CT, so I go to Pachaug State Park, Hopeville Pond, Bluff Point, Harkness Memorial State Park, and others.
They are much more fun for dogs and more scenic.
You get to meet other dog people and meet everyday to hike with your dogs. Smile

Personally I hate dog parks, to many crazy people with untrained and overly agressive dogs there. "Dog Parks" are more trouble than they're worth.

yooperboy, I feel that I have to step in here.
Dog parks are only as good as the folks that frequent them. If the users are aware of the results coming from bringing unruly dogs there then they would not allow that to happen..They will police themselves.
I know that our city has 2 parks, one is fenced and 1 unfenced.. The users control the area and if someone does bring a out of control dog, they are asked to get a handle on things or leave. If they still do no get the picture then a call to the Animal Control will get them out to take a look at things. Usually just parking in the lot for a few minutes will get the instigators attention. I have yet to see someone push it to the point of the AC taking the dog.

leopardqueen this has been suggested in other posts. But try a unused baseball field of football field, and be very obvious in cleaning up after your dog. But you have to keep in mind the rules about the area and the other users if it catches on.

i dont have an dog park ether but i do have an park and i talked to the owner and he said that i could walk my dogs there.i would suggest doing the same. if you dont have an park walking him around the neighborhoood is good but remember to take different routs and jog one day run the other and walk the next. just mix it up for your dog.see i have 19 dogs so they are all different but have one thing in common they love different things!

I WISH I HAD A DOG PARK BU I DON'T. I have at least 25 acres aof land though my dogs are getting tired of it and really the only other dogs they see here when they are not going to agility training is the cyoteys and the other dogs aloud to roam like a white dog, awhite and black dog, and many other we probably don't know about. I fell that I should take them out to meet other dogs but we don't have a dog park. Any suggestions and sorry about going maybe a wee bit off topic here.

I drive to different cities and walk my dogs sometimes. I liked to surprise them. Theres walking trails in near by areas that we go on too.

And when its real nasty out, we go walk around a pet friendly store like Petco or Petsmart.

Are there any open spaces in or near your town? you could maybe try playing some active games?

My town is building a dog park but I won't be taking my dog there. Dog parks are pretty much just asking to spread disease. You can't assume that everyone is as responsible as yourself and vaccinates their animals...I've heard of many cases where perfectly healthy animals picked up not so nice diseases from local dog parks.

When I take my dog out, I switch up where we go. The local parks here allow dogs so long as they are on leashes so I take her to those quite a bit, or I drive to different neighborhoods. State Parks usually allow leashed dogs as well. I like to finish up walks by taking her somewhere fun, like PetSmart.
