I am really impressed with the show after one episode! Kudos to Dr. Garth, it is great to see a doctor so dedicated to his pt's. health and well being. Thanks, and keep up the good work.
I just love this show! I am two years post-op RNY, and have maintained at the same weight for the last year. I just love watching people go through the process. I think it will be a big eye opener for those who think that this surgery is "the easy way out". There is nothing easy about it. I am just beginning my journey to get some plastic surgery and I can't wait! But if I am never able to have plastic surgery, I don't really care. I got my life back. If you want to interview me, I am willing!
This is David, Penelope's ex. I don't know if most women who have WLS end up single, but it had nothing to do with our breakup. I'll take the blame for the specifics, but it was coming whether she had surgery or not. We're just very different people.
Frankly, I found it amusing that they showed her out at the bar with her friends as though it were a new thing. If you know Penelope, you'd know that she's always been hard to keep up with! Even the toast; She introduced me to that toast when we first met, years ago. Penelope's still the same friendly, beautiful, outgoing, vibrant person she was before surgery and I count myself lucky to consider her a friend.
My point, if I have one, is that WLS doesn't necessarily change the person underneath.

I hope you liked the show. I never realized how WEIRD it would be to actually see yourself on TV and re-live those moments. I have ablsolutely NO regrets.....
This is an amazing show with amazing doctors dedicated to helping people. I am so thankful I was a part of this wonderful process.
Bravo to you, David, for a gentlemanly post. I think people tend to forget that "morbidly obese" people are, first and foremost, people. So when such a person is part of a couple and they break up, they break up for the reasons that people break up. We shouldn't jump to the conclusion that it had something to do with the weight, pre- or post-operation, or with the surgery.
Enjoy the show. Question about age as I am 63 yrs old and have been obese all my life (330 lbs - 5'3) and have been thinking about the surgery but....I have never been in hospital and am scared to death. Of course after all these years I have accepted the problems associated with this much weight, hi bp, knee and back pain etc. But I would love to live the remaining years minus all this weight. Please advise me if 63 is too old to change eating habits etc. Thanks you

gomo1313...I am not a Dr. but I say that there is no way in heck that it is too late for anything! I know of a retired gentleman that had WLS done. His Dr. recommended that he have the lap band done rather that the RNY. Something to do with his age. Didn't pry to see why though. Hopefull Dr. Garth will address this with you.
