I know that exercise has to be a big part of the follow up after surgery, but I have not seen much about that on the show. There is a trainer, Austin, that works with Kim, Allen and Marc. Kim has definitely had great weight loss, and Allen and Marc, too. I have a lot of questions that I would like to see addressed by Austin. What kinds of exercises do Marc and Allen do, being bed-bound? What is important for bariatric patients in getting started working out?
Is there any way to ask the trainer questions like we can with Mary Jo? I think that would be very helpful.
I realize I'm biased, but I think Austin is amazing. He has an understanding of obesity issues that you would not expect from someone who has never been obese. He has done amazing work with me, as well as Allen and Marc.
I agree that it would be great if the show had more of Austin and his work. Physical activity and exercise is an important part of the after surgery process, and that really should be emphasized more! Let's hope the producers agree! :-)
I do agree with both of ya'll working with Austin Davis has been the best thing that has happened to me besides WLS. I've learned so much from him. He has not only prepared me phyiscally but also mentally and what i love about this man is that he is a very understanding trainer for people like us. I would love to see him working with others during the second season and other seasons to come. He is GRRRRRRRRREAT!!! and i would not be where im at now with out him.
Allen, the whole forum has been asking "where are you" when you say you would not be where you are without Austin. Austin's website says you haven't achieved your goals and everyone here wants to know if you are up and walking yet. You said you won't be on anymore this season. At least tell us if you are able to walk at all at this point.

Is Austin not able to answer questions on this forum just like Mary Jo and Garth have? Everybody else answers questions here. Can't you ask him a question on the forum and let him respond? What are your questions? I'm sure he'd answer them.

I do not find anything on Austin's website (www.fitandfunny.net) that speaks to Allen meeting or not his goals. What I do know is that Allen has made tremendous progress, both physically and mentally, due to his work with Austin. As we all saw in the episode in which Allen tried to stand up, he has some issues with excessive breast/chest tissue that impedes his ability to stand. Dr. Garth and Austin both agreed that getting that extra tissue removed will be critical in getting Allen on his feet.
I've had the pleasure of watching Allen's progress first hand, and I can attest to the fact that he is, indeed, a stronger and healthier person since he began to get exercise and fitness issues squared away. That commitment to fitness was inspired, and continually reinforced, by Austin. He and Allen work incredibly well together.
It's on the home page: "The Fit and Funny Program and Austin Davis will be featured on The Learning Channel (TLC) show "Big Medicine". In "Big Medicine", Austin works with Allen Mata, a young man who had gastric bypass surgery. Allen lost a lot of weight after the surgery; however he had not achieved the weight loss and other lifestyle goals he had set for himself." I looked at his site to see what it was about and it's above a picture of he and Allen. The forum continues to ask if by this time he has gotten on his feet. If he hasn't, that's all anyone wants to know as we are all pulling for him. But, with no updates this season, obviously we'd like to know.

Yep, that's there, and it's a description of Allen's condition when Austin began working with him, not a current statement of Allen's progress. The amount of improvement in Allen's condition is tremendous, and while he is not standing just yet, his health and fitness is incredibly better, not to mention his attitude and his outlook on life. Once he has the skin and tissue that is holding him back removed, I have no doubt that Austin will have him on his feet.
Watch for the last episode of this season, where there should be an update on Allen.
