I'm sure Garth will see this and give a better answer, but I know there are people in our support group who are older than 55 who have recently had the surgery. I'd suggest talking to your surgeon to see what he/she says.
I recently went to a wls meeting and the age was 61. It was also the surgeons choice. Other surgeons may have different age limits. Your health is also a factor.
Thanks Pinky and Kvalera, I appreciate your responses, my daughter thinks I'm too old...plus, I've had 3 c-sections and that's a concern with scarring.
Fattypoo C sections are much lower than most of the surgery. I had 2 c-sections prior to my surgery as well as 3 other abdominal surgeries. I had to opt for an open gbs instead of a laproscopic proceedure but it can be done and really isn't any worse than my other surgeries. Don't give up on it, I don't think you're too old either.
Hello everyone, My Doctor wants me to get the WLS but I have been told I am too old. I am a 73 year old male and my Doctor STILL wants me to have it done. Any ideas?
fattypoo, I had my surgery on 7/03/07. I am 56 years old. Age was never an issue in my journey to have surgery. I think insurance and health and age to a certain extent are all taken into consideration. I'm three weeks out and have had no complications. Good luck
My mom was 58 when she had it, no complications and because she did so well she was able to have bladder surgery 6 mos later....All you ladies out there will know what I mean!
