I was on the show...you may have seen me last Monday (July 16). What do you want to know, specifically, about my experience? I'm very happy to share my experience, but I want to be sure I'm addressing what it is that you really want to know.
Hi Kim, Yes I did see you on the show, you brave woman! I also remember seeing you giving your support to Alan(?)early on with Austin. Congratulations on getting your plastic surgery.
Since I'm a Methodist employee and alread a patient of Dr. Garth, I'm fully confident on what happens in that area. What I'm not sure about is how much time you spend with the film crews, what all did they want from you? I can't imagine it is just sitting and talking with the cameras, then going on your way. I don't like jumping into a situation, not knowing what to expect. I would love to apply to be on the show, and think I would be a great candidate. However, I work full time, and I'm getting ready to go to school 4 nights a week, and do not want to get involved in something that I would not be able to give my full attention too. Thanks for any info you can provide!
The amount of time with the film crew was not overwhelming. They spent one afternoon (4 or 5 hours, maybe?) with me here at home and at the scrapbook store where I go a lot, they came with me to all of my doctor visits and they came out to the drop zone to film some skydiving footage, which took a few hours. They also came out to the gym one afternoon and spent about an hour with me as I worked out with Austin.
Every film crew that worked with me was just amazing, and I did enjoy the time spent chatting with them and getting the journey caught on film. Of course, the naked filming was bizarre, but I just tried to keep in mind that someone out there would see my story and get the motivation they needed to get healthy.
Did I give you enough info? If you want to know more, ask. I'm happy to share my experience.
Kvalera, thank you for sharing. I would love to be on the show if it helped another. However I am a sunny California country girl, not a Texas one. Congratulations and keep up the fantastic work.
Yes, thank you so much Kvalera for your information and insight. I'm very happy for you and happy that everything's gone well during your journey.
I would love nothing more than to be on the show to help educate others about the journey and procedure to weight loss in my peer group, however, I do not reside in TX. I'm very pleased to see a show about gastric bypass on the airwaves and hope the stories and experiences reach as many people as possible, who would maybe never think of even considering the procedure. Whether or not someone would choose to go through the procedure, they are able to receive information from 2 highly educated and knowledgeable surgeons who truly care about what they're doing, and not just concerned about receiving a paycheck.
I first started my journey to gastric bypass surgery in 2004, only to be denied by my insurance company at the time. A few weeks ago Big D and Little D talked about insurance policies which have "exclusions" for weight loss procedures, which was exactly what I went through. The surgeon I had chosen was, at that time, the #4 gastric bypass surgeon in the nation. He was part of my PPO plan and had I needed a surgical procedure other than gastric bypass, the surgery would have been covered. However, since my company excluded weight loss procedures from the plan, the 6 months of preparation, education, and visits to the pulminologist, sleep center, cardiologist, nutritionist, etc. were for naught.
I have since relocated to a new state a little more than a year ago and into a new job with a Fortune 200 company that offers health benefits which will cover the procedure. I plan to start my new road to wellness with a local surgeon as soon as possible and help others, too, along the way as best I can.
