I got a baby Iguana almost a year ago named Maui and he's still a little shy. Now, he's got a little bigger but he's still really small compared to a full grown Iguana, of course. He always has an attitude when I try to take him out but, as soon as he's out, he's just fine. I've been considering getting another Iguana so he could have a buddy but I'm not totally sure. I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice...

Try posting this to the "Reptiles and Exotics" forum. You'll probably get more responses.

NO iguanas are territorial.
When he hits 2 yrs of age he should be 4 ft long. If hes not growing much, something is wrong with your husbandry.
Describe your setup and lighting.

It was in "Pet Recommendations". I had flagged it for mod-kelly, and also added the response.

No, do NOT get a buddy for your iguana. As said above, iguanas are territorial, they don't like other iguanas in their space. While you can get away with keeping hatchlings together, once they hit maturity (roughly 8 to 10 inches snout to vent) they will terrorize each other and one or both will be stressed out.

I also agree that you need to do a little more research on igs. Iguanas are very rapid growing creatures. If you have had that iguana for a year, with proper care and a proper diet, he would have grown several inches. Even my rescue iggie who was stunted from MBD so bad his bones were literally like rubber and malnutrition and starvation as well grew about 4 inches in one year after gaining that weight back and overcoming MBD.

There is probably something wrong with the diet you are feeding it or with your set up. Can you give a brief description of the set up (ie size, lighting, heating etc) and the diet?

You should NEVER get a buddy for your lizard, if you're a good enough owner, your lizard won't be lonely, and if you get a lizard of the same gender, the two lizards will attack eachother, and if you get another one of the oppisite gender, they might end up breeding, and then you'll be over your head.

Yeah you don't want to put Iguanas with another Iguana, bad things can happen. I have a current Iguana that is 4-5 ft. pictures are on Myspace.com/andycapped88.. He's real tame and friendly, I take him out for drives once in a while and he'll just be on my shoulder while I'm on the wheel. It's cool... but yeah do some more major researching before you do anything..

(My friend, Andy, replied under my name... and he won't be able to reply again for a while. That's why he left his myspace address.)
