Regarding the memorial that Animal Planet is airing, about not knowing when to light a candle if you don't get to see it on TV...it really doesn't matter because it won't be live anyway. I mean, if we just want to know that we are all lighting candles together again for this memorial service, that's a good thing, but I wish we could actually do it when THEY are doing it. I don't understand why they're not airing it live.
I've just discovered this topic and I'm speechless already... What a great initiative, what a great way to gather and litterally honour the light of Steve Irwin. Thank you! I'm joining in in the Netherlands!

What a wonderful idea - the bondfire, I mean. Last weekend (9/9-10) my sister came to visit me and after all my critters (3 dogs, 4 cats, 4 birds, and assorted stray cats/kittens who won't come in the house) were all bedded down and calm and my son was involved in nintendo, my sister and I had a few quiet moments to ourselves and drank a toast (with a fine australian wine, of course) in steve's memory. But the bond fire idea is even better - I will have to call her and let her know about it too. We are both so sad that he is gone. Even though we had never met him, his infectious enthusiasm, humour and dedication came across the telly so strongly, you felt that you did know him personally. I have supported wildlife groups for the past 35 years, sending donations, signing petitions, both personally and gathering signatures of the dozens of people I work with, boycotting tuna for years until they made it dolphin safe, but Steve was right out there with the animals themselves and I think he got the message across way more strongly than all the magazines that defenders of wildlife, national wildlife federation et al could ever have done. Does anyone know if the National Zoo in Washington D.C. will be having a memorial of any sort?
The world lost a hero when we lost Steve. He was a precious gift for animals, the environment, and the human race. I know that he has inspired many future heroes. Thanks Mate!

Originally posted by cbtree: People all over the world who are mourning the death of Steve Irwin, have a chance for some closure to their grief. This grassroots idea started the 13th of September, has snowballed into a worldwide Campfire/ candle lighting ceremony. Steve's Dad said on the news that they had a funeral for steve where everyone was gathered around the campfire and told fond stories. That this is what Steve wanted. Since most of us cannot come to Australia to pay respects, I came up with an idea.
If it's a Camp fire Steve wanted, then why not have the worlds biggest Bond-fire by having all who loved him join in by lighting candles, lighters, flashlights, Bonfires, etc. The perfect day to honour him would be two weeks after his death.
We are not all privileged to have the ability to watch the Wednesday Public ceremony.
So this is a way to join in with thousands of others -spiritually- and give him the biggest and best sendoff ever. Some people are having a gathering of at least 100 people to campout and have their vigil. Please share this event so other fans of Steve Irwin may also join in on the worldwide Bond-fire.
This is to be held on: Monday, September 18th at 11:30AM (AEST)
Time Zone converter:
(For USA- Sunday, Sept 17th at 9:30 PM EST)
This is NOT the public memorial put on by the Irwin family.That service is on Sept. 20th at 9am Australia Brisbane time. It's impossible to contact the family to include them on this candlelight vigil. Message from doveonthebrazos:
"Update from the texas area.. currently we are all going to meet in my Dad's paddocks Sunday evening and at 8:30PM (Central)CDT, have our candlelight tribute with 10 min's of silence to reflect what Steve meant personally to us and to say our farewells.
My Dad is making a campfire so that we can all share our feelings aloud afterwards. Crickey!!! to quote Stevo looks like there is going to be 100 people attending many following me down from Northern Texas as my folks live in Central Texas. Plus Dad let the word out there and everyone jumped on board there as well.
Many of us are pitching tents and spending the night in the paddock around the campfire. Steve you are Loved everywhere!!!"
Come join us in your own backyard with candles, lighters, flashlights, bells, or a campfire...for the biggest Bondfire in the world, for STEVE. You will be AMAZED when you feel the spiritual strength of THOUSANDS joining hands to honour him and pray for the Irwin family. Come lift up your hearts and your hands and send Terri and children the love you felt for Steve. -Cheryl-

On another note, I want to become a wildlifewarrior but I don't have a credit card. Is there anyway that I can send a money order with my donation? I know that in time all this will be settled out but I want to help now because I can do so now.
I was wondering the same thing - so I actually emailed wildlife warrior (at their contact us email address) and asked this very question. don't know if they can take a check drawn on a U.S. bank in U.S. dollars. I haven't heard back from them yet - sent it to them last thursday (9/14)
I'll join in the "Bond-Fire" in my Texas backyard tonight - it's like a mini wildlife habitat with 2 resident wild cottontail rabbits roaming free (and this is in town!), lots of birds at my feeders, butterflies all over my flowers, little lizards in the gardens, and dozens of hummingbirds the past 2 days. I have seen more wildlife today than I have in a long time - it's almost as if the animals would like to join in with us in our "Bond-Fire" remembrance of Steve.
I will be participating here in San Diego, by lighting a candle. I lit one when the tribute started on animal planet, and I will light another one at 6:30

I will be lighting a candle for Steve at 8:30 this evening. I was just wondering if there was a mailing address to send a poem to Terri and her family that I found helpful in healing when my mom passed away 6 years ago? As devastating as the family's loss is, this poem helped me to get through losing a family member; especially when this is such a close relationship. If there is a place I could send the poem to, I would love to do my part to help Terri and her family. Debbie
You can also go to the Australia Zoo website, click on the picture of Steve, and there is a place to leave an e-message. Hope this helps. Joining with all your hearts at 8:30 tonight (Texas time). Godspeed.

Dear Steve (gardenofroses) Thanks for the information where I can send the poem. I'll try to get it to Terri and her family by tomorrow. I really hope it helps her during this difficult time. I think I'll be waiting until 9:30 to light my candle. It fits our time period better. Take care. Debbie

Steve Irwin may your bright soul shine upon all that you stood for down here on planet earth for all its wonderful creatures , and may god always bless your family and friends. Our memories and thoughts will be with you forever and never die down.
cbtree, Yes, I felt it also - everyone joining together into one flame of love and resolve to carry on Steve's passion. Steve, you will live forever in our hearts. cbtree, thank you soooo much for this beautiful idea!
Had to quickly go google the full lyrics ... purrfect for Terri and Steve ... now they have just a few more thousand (or millions) volunteers to whom to delegate some of the work of their new horizons.
~~~~~~~~~ In memory of their soulmate bond:
We've only just begun to live, White lace and promises A kiss for luck and we're on our way. And yes, We've just begun.
Before the rising sun we fly, So many roads to choose We start our walking and learn to run. And yes, We've just begun.
Sharing horizons that are new to us, Watching the signs along the way, Talking it over just the two of us, Working together day to day Together.
And when the evening comes we smile, So much of life ahead We'll find a place where there's room to grow, And yes, We've just begun.
This is BEAUTIFUL. I wish I'd had this song before I lit my candle.
I imagine in the background of this webpage to be the thousands of candles lit for Steve tonight/ today.
For those of you who missed out on the vigil.. pull up this webpage and light a candle for Steve. It's never too late. Let us know when you do light a candle.. keep the fire going.
PERHAPS ONE LAST ENTRY BEFORE THIS TOPIC'S CLOSED...
cbtree - as I was out walking my dogs I noticed a nearby neighbor had a red string and a white string of lights all around their balcony ... what other reason tonight except to honor Steve.
************************************************
Now let's let our actions on Steve's behalf keep HIS light burning bright ... (Will Elton John revise the lyrics THIS ONE'S TIME):
STEVE, "Your candle burned out LONG BEFORE your legend ever will"
Thanks to all of you for your inspiraton, encouragement, and vision ... this truly was a BOND-fire.
When I went to bed last night it hit me that I had said I felt better and my grief was lessened after lighting a candle and praying. I realized this candle lighting was not about me. It was for for Steve. It was for Terri. It was for his children. It was for those he left behind. I was praying for those who love him. Including all of you. So,in doing that I do feel better because I finally DID something proactive to help. That's where a lot of people are coming from. Everyone needs something proactive to do to get in touch with this man and his family. I hope not to make anyone feel bad. This is just something that came to me as I was reflecting on as I tried to sleep. I hope that if Terri or her family read my notes they wouldn't think I was being selfish in saying I felt better. The saddness will "nevah" go away in losing one of our greatest warriors on the face of this planet. But in loss, we gained an army of warriors. I shall keep praying and spiritually hugging Terri, her Children, and his Dad.
It's nevah too late to light a candle, and say a prayer for his loved ones,.. or spiritually hug them, -"Evah."
I had the same feeling with you now! I'm about to sleep and I felt alot better. Thinking that Steve had even gone to a Animal Paradise. I felt happy for him when I thought about that. But we will never get over his death, he was such a GREAT man... He will be remembered by everyone of us as a passionate wildlife warrior and an enthusiastic CONSERVATIONIST!
By the way, can anyone help me check if there's any schedule in Singapore for the Memorial Live? Thanks in advance.
'CRIKEY!' CROCS RULE!' R.I.P mate, we'll miss you.
How can we celebrate this from afar at the time the memorial starts? How can we make this memorable to honour him?
Shall we light candles again but at 9:30AM AEST - a 1/2 hour into the memorial service in Australia?
That would be 7:30 Detroit Michigan time.
Two hours earlier than the vigil last night?
I cannot see the memorial service live either. I have to wait for AP to televise it two hours after it starts. I'm not whinning. But was hoping to participate in prayers or anything else they were doing at the time they do it. ( I suppose there would still be a time delay due to broadcasting) I'm hoping AP does not edit anything out of it.
