I know Detroit is cancelled, and as far as I am concerned, Houston may as well be. I know there are new episodes of the other shows such as Phoenix, Animal Precinct, etc.
Detroit was my favorite, but I can never catch air times for the repeats for it. I loved Houston with Max, Jim, and that crew, but do not feel the same about the new 'Houston cops.' They do good work, but do not draw me in, as Max and co. managed to do each episode.
They are said to have perhaps stopped filming at Houston last year now, and just as well, as I agree with Teach, with the old team being just terrific, esp. the first two years of filming, 2002-ca. mid 2004.
But they are regularly showing reruns of the old Detroit shows long after stopping filming, and Miami long after stopping filming, and I hope they do the same with Houston and the old team and exceptional shows with the new one (the only one in this class so far is the tigers and bears rescue one), as they still have lessons to teach to those just coming along who never saw the series, esp. the special editions with the chair commentary by key investigators in a particular story.
Most of the new shows are merely redundant and lacklustre compared to the old ones.
Here in the UK the re-runs of Detroit are just coming to an end - pheonix is still running showing repeats and from next week we have a re-run of the 1st series of Houston - so i can still see Max,Jim,Scott and the rest from the old crew. I'll have to agree with both of you, from the few episodes i've seen with some of the new Investigators - it's not got the same feeling - there's an atmosphere hanging over HSPCA - it's no wonder they all left! LG
According to Judy, as of a couple of weeks ago, the Anglia crew is still filming in Houston. I very rarely run across the film crew any more since they went down to one crew (which usually isn't there on Saturday). I think that their offices are now in the Annex building, so Judy doesn't run into them casually either.
Well, that old team and its leadership, particularly in the early years of filming, set a standard that is perhaps relatively rare in the trade. But people move on and organizations change, it's the way of things. The inspiration that that team fired up in a lot of folks out there goes on - animals in all sorts of places are directly benefitting from that and will continue to. And those people will inspire other people, who will inspire still others, and on and on and on. I think that's just great.
So the team accomplished its immediate short-term educational mission, and with considerable style, and key players go on with animal causes elsewhere. We can probably ask for little more than that.
In the meantime, the HSPCA is very lucky to still have its quiet smart hard-working knowledgeable Charles there training and working with the relative newbies, who are certainly doing some good work. I hope they appreciate him to the extent that he deserves.
