Koppel is a calm, smart voice. Bill Moyers without the Jimmy Carter overlay. I would like to see what he does best: take a calm but hard look at the issues of the day beyond the noise of JonBenet and Emmys. Some issues: the fairness of a military without a draft; the seperation of church and state from an enlightenment perspective; the crumbling of American infrastructure because of tax policies; the use of Christian schools for white flight in urban areas (and the subsequent opposition of voters to support public schools because their kids don't go there).

How about the cynical and crippling effect of Democrat policies in New Orleans for the past three decades and how they contributed to the fiasco that occured after Katrina?
How about an indepth study of the terrorist links to CAIR and why the government and media treat that organization as a typical American political group?
Perhaps a report on the level of poverty and government relief flowing to Utah due to dysfunctional polygamist families.
On a positive note, how about a report on the true value that Mexican emigration actually provides the American economy and society.
How about a study on the blurring divisions among races as intermarriage continues to increase?

A whole look at religion and tax law would be great. We hear a lot about the "war on Christianity" from the right, but what about all the tax exemptions churches get and, yes, the gaming of the social services system by some. The unregulated millions, the gobbling up of television and radio stations, the unholy alliance between preachers on the left and right with the two main political parties. That would be goring everybody's ox.

1)I'd like to see him take on the issue of poor, ill intentioned or faulting news reporting to an already paranoid American public. 2)I'd like to see him debate on why the American public would rather vote for American idol contestants rather than their own President...and why they complain about him afterwards if he does something they don't totally agree with.

I'd like to see an in depth look at the failure of mainstream media to fully inform the public. It is unconsionable that nearly half of all Americans believe that Sadam Hussein had something to do with 9/11 and I lay that at the feet of the mainstream media.

It looks as if people on both the left and right are unhappy with the MSM. That certainly sounds like a good Koppel topic to me.

Unfortunately, this type of programming we can get from PBS, CNN or any mainstream media outlet. Learn to clean a sewer, fill a football with helium or build a motorcyle.....then you have something different.

I wish Ted would get a crew together and hit the streets of America & get the views of the working class. The non experts. I am so fed up with listening to 24 year old experts on cable news. how can anyone 24 years old be an expert at anything? The views of the common folk might be very interesting. At least we would be hearing the truth as it is voiced, rather than hear the homoginzed version from the news media. Which by the way no one really believes anymore...the common people are a lot more perceptive than the intellectuals give them credit for. After all they live with the effects of bad government more than the affluent do! I think it would be a great program. The Talk on the Street might be a good name or something catchy that embodies the common folk.

He makes me think a little deeper about how far off the reservation he is ,as far as this guy is concerned all America has to do is change everything people all over the world hate about us and everything will be peachy. In the shorts for the Iran special he talks about how the people over there love America ,then they show pictures of "death to america" and "down with americans", people burning flags etc.Wake up, the only reason they welcome him with open arms is that they know he is sympathetic to there way of thinking and that his broadcast will plant the seed of doubt in weak American minds! This man interviewed one of the hostage takers of the 1974 consulate takeover,he talked with the guy like he was a family member. What he is doing is nothing short of giving comfort and aid to the enemy.Congrats Tom your a modern day Jane Fonda!!!!!!!

Hey Pat, Koppels show last night exposed the Shite factor on Irans potential Dominence in the mid east region. I told you before..History is the common thread that holds these people together..they may not agree politically but will put all that aside when it comes to their common belief. The Ayatolla Rules, what he wants, is what will happen. The Potential for a Shite..Sunni showdown is very real..I think Ted expose that possibility last night.

To reopen this question after a few months of silence on it.... After Koppel's fiasco following the Lost Tomb of Jesus, how can anyone say that he makes them "think." To make some "think" is to create an open minded agenda where many viewpoints are explored. Koppel obviously thinks his is the only opinion that is valid, and has trouble hiding that fact when on air....so, no, he does nothing for stimulating MY mind. At least not any more. Wont watch him ever again, and I even have a bad taste now towards Discovery Channel for airing his rude moderating style. I would feel a lot better if Discovery Channel made a very public appology as well as a public repremand towards Koppel. If they don't then I have lost all faith in them, in spite of the fact that they showed such a great, courageous documentary of the Lost Tomb. I also think that Koppel should come on the air and in the newspapers with his appologies. HOwever, Koppel's appologies would not change my mind about viewing him again....and Discovery or anyone else should not trust his journalism, either. Still, appologies from both are needed...from Discovery and from Koppel.

Absolutely. He is by far one of the most prolific and honest reporters in our time. He is sincere about the topics he covers, and it is that ethic that compels us to listen to him. If we would all just do a little more listening all around, we would see real changes in attitude for the better. I'm glad Mr. Koppel is here on Discovery!
