I've been working out (cardio & weights ) since the new year and I have only lost 4 lbs. My clothes are still to tight and I'm getting frustrated. I am also eating alot healthier. More fruits and veggies and I drink alot of water too. I don't think my portions are too big either. Any ideas please? Thanks.

you may need to increase your aerobic activity. I know you said you do cardio and weights but how often and for how long, particularly with your cardio? It also helps to incorporate little bouts of exercise throughout your day, something simple as taking the stairs instead of the elevator, or doing chair dips or wall pushups in your office can help as well. These are simple things you can do, without equipment that help yopu burn calories during the day. Smile

Sometimes we think our portions are reasonably sized when they actually aren't. We live in a "super size" culture so alot of times our perceptions of what are "normal" portion sizes are skewed. Roll Eyes

I would say, keep up with the healthy eating, make sure you get enough fiber (to help you feel full, longer and keep you "regular")and protein (to help build lean muscle mass) and of course carbs (for energy) and fats (we need some). Watch out for hidden calories too, Sometimes even things that are "fat free" have alot of added calories (from sugar and starches). Also if you eat alot of those frozen diet entrees be aware they are often very high in sodium so you could be retaining alot of water weight.

hope all this helps. if you need anything, please post and I will definately respond.

When I first started excercising my doctor told me that to lose weight I would have to excercise at least three times a week if not more. If your not excercising enough your body cant burn even the calories from the healthy food your eating...Also as fitmommaof2 said todays food portions are usually a lot larger then what you really need to eat.....For meat you usually need 2 -3 oz a serving.....Pasta 1/2 cup is a serving....Maybe reading the food lables and investing in a digital food scale to make sure your portions are right would help too.

thanks for the advice. I do cardio 5 days a week for at least 30 min. I also have two dogs I walk (not when it's to cold though). Maybe I will get one of those food scales. I'm just frustrated because it's been 11 weeks and I thought I should be at least 11 lbs. lighter. Ya know 1 lb. a week. Well since it is getting warmer out I should be able to get more exercise outside Gardening, walking the dogs, riding my bike). I'll let ya know how it goes. Thanks. Wink

I too started at the beginning of the year with very small results. After tons of research I found out that I wasn't challenging my body enough. I stuck with the same routines and same amount of weight during strength training. What I learned, is if your not constantly changing your routine around, you hit that fitness platue. Basically, try a different cardio routine, and add more weight. In the case of getting fit, CHANGE IS GOOD! Big Grin
