Mike-dirty jobs is one of my all time favorite shows! Thought of you & your show yesterday as we cleaned a clogged sewerline to a 100 year old apartment building-what fun did we have! Hey-how 'bout some Dirty Jobs t-shirts?
Thanks!

I have a 3 year old son named Jonathan he watches your show everyday, and thinks that all his jobs are dirty jobs. All he ever talks about is Dirty Jobs. His birthday is in May and I would love it if you could send a autographed picture of you. His theme for his birthday party is going to be dirty jobs. I would like to know if you sell and shirts for children? He keeps trying to come up with a dirty job on our farm so that you can come do a show here. If you ever come to North Dakota please let us know he would love to meet you.

Hi Rhonda, welcome to the boards!

Mike is up in Alaska doing the voiceover for Deadliest Catch this week. Just follow the directions in his post for getting a signed photo. Unfortunately, right now the knuckleheads over at Discovery don't have any merchandise available outside of DVDs.

It has been brought to my attention that the production photos that I have personally autographed for nearly 10,000 fans of Dirty Jobs are disappointing in two key areas.

1. They aren't BIG enough.
2. They aren't DIRTY enough.

In an effort to rectify this oversight, and celebrate more new episodes, The Network has allocated several dozen dollars to upgrade my publicity shot. The new photo addresses both concerns quite nicely. It is of the standard 8x10 variety, and features me, covered in charcoal dust, holding my filthy hands toward the camera, and screaming in abject horror. The expression captures what I believe to be the true measure of pain and regret that have become hallmarks of my large and filthy face. You can obtain your very own signed copy - should you desire such a thing - by sending a request to the production company. The request should read:

PHOTO REQUEST
Pilgrim Films and Television
6180 Laurel Canyon Blvd. #350
North Hollywood, CA 91606

Be sure to include a self-addressed stamped envelope with sufficient postage. (You’d be amazed how many forget.) Please make sure the return envelope is large enough to hold an 8”x10” photo. Please address the envelope exactly as written above. Please do not include anything else with a photo request. This includes lengthy letters, crocheted mittens, suggestions for dirty jobs, love notes for Barsky, boudoir imagery for me, or baked goods of any type. The aforementioned are all welcomed and appreciated, but must not be included with a PHOTO REQUEST. It only confuses things, and makes Barsky anxious.

Please allow 4-6 years for delivery.
If you would like the photo personalized, please allow much, much longer.

Seriously,
Mike

PS
Ivy – Please also remove the sticky that says I’m unplugging for a bit. I'm not.

Thanks

Mike

I've definatly got to send for one of those. I love what you do with Dirty Jobs. What you say is completely true. The people who do those jobs keep the rest of the world moving. I love that you demonstrate all those jobs and really get people to appreciate all those hard workers out there doing those jobs for us all!
In that same thread, what are the qualities in a dirty job that you would want in order to be interested enough to actually feature that job on an episode? Thanks, Mike!

Hi fauxfinky, welcome to the boards!

Mike is in Alaska this week and has a hard time getting to Internet access as he is spending most of his time on a crab boat. About a year ago he answered a similar question and this was his reply:

quote:
The show has certain vague, but non-negotiable limits that are content related and determined by the network. I can't speak to those.

From a production standpoint however, all dirty jobs must incorporate at least some of the following criteria.

1. A "who knew" factor, like Chick Sexing.
2. A "gotta get done" factor, like Road Kill Clean-Up.
3. A great character, like Bill Bretherton from Vexcon.
4. Tons of factual information, like Bat Biologist.
5. A lot of dirt, like Charcoal Maker.
6. Backbreaking manual labor, like indoor demolition.

The more of these elements, the easier my job, and the better the segment. In my opinion, character and dirt are the most critical. With the right character, I believe I could spend the whole day a gravedigger, digging just one hole, and coming away with a worthwhile ten minute piece.

To answer your question, I can think of no job that would be unsuitable, provided dirt and character were abundant.

Mike

Mike,

Love, love, love the show! You are the funniest man on TV. I recall the show about printing lithographs and was wondering if any of your "limited" prints were available. If not, I'd love to be able to print my own 8 X 10. Keep up the dirty work and clean your nails! Geez!!

Would you give me access to get this wave recording to him. I know he would at least get a laugh out of it along with who ever watches the show. I know that this is not pictures, this deals with some new crazy song that a guy who works in a cement plant (DIRTY JOB!!!)came up with. There is even a real dirty sleezy guitar slide in it. What More would you want? Thank you, betchalikeit.

Well I didn't die. Thought that I would get a reply off of this post. Well I am willing to try again. I really do have a song for the Dirty Jobs show and it is recorded and ready to be sent. Any one interested on the show at all? How about you Mike? What do I have to do to get this message to you? I know that you are a famous celeb,so how about throwing a dog a bone here. You might like the results of this song. I work at a cement plant now, but before that I installed and repaired sewers. Is that dirty enough for you.
Just remember when you flush the toilet, do you really actualy know where the poo flows to the goo? Does this goo have any thing to do with you? It had to, cause the poo, came from you, to the goo. So lets goo and give back a reply. Well thank goo very much. betchalikeit.

How's it goin? My name is Zach Mullen, I'm from Peoria, IL and I am 19 years old. I attend San Diego State University but over the summer and whenever else, I live back home in Illinois. Over the summer I have a job working up at the community pool in the middle of my town called Lake Camelot. The subdivisions in this area share a mutual pool that usually see's about 250 kids and parents a day when open. If you really think about it, doesn't that make the water dirty? Believe it or not you may not see a change in the color of the water, that is unless the chlorine guy screws up, but other than that you can't exactly tell. That's where me, my brother, and my friend Trent come in. You probably receive thousands of suggestions or requests for you to come and do someone's dirty job with them. I respect your job and your bravery, half the things you do or see I wouldn't even wanna be within 50 feet of. However, just consider the job I'm about to tell you about and if you could, shoot me an e-mail or response on what you think about it. Our pool contains two pumps in one main pumping room. You're probably familiar with a lot of pumps from all the episodes you spent in the sewers and such, haha! (Good stuff) Along with those pumps there are twenty-three filters that pick up all the human hair, skin, feces, dirt, and anything else that ends up in the pool. Our job every morning before the pool opens is to clean these filters and the pump pit, sweeping the muck and dirt into a drain and re-inserting the filters for a day's cycle. We have to hose off the filters in a separate area where the dirt can mix in with other waste, along with many other steps such as applying filter powder, which catches the dirt through the pumps and onto the filters. Draining the pit of all water so work is manageable, it also lowers the pool's water level. After all the cleaning is done we turn back on the water flow and wait. While that is happening, the three of us swim and jump off the diving board, haha. Anyways, this job has a few other procedures but it would make a longer story for you to read. Just a suggestion, but I believe this would be an interesting job for Mike to come do with us in the summer of 2007 while my brother, my friend Trent, and I do our dirty job. My little brother, Jake, and I watch Dirty Jobs every day, even if its a re-run. My brother showed me your TV show and I'm addicted. He then told me to e-mail you and tell you about our dirty job. Jake is a huge fan of Mike Rowe and believe or not wants to do what he does every day, haha. So please, consider gettin dirty at the Lake Camelot pool, it'll make a good segment for one of your episodes.

Thanks and very respectfully,

Zach Mullen, Jake Mullen, and Trent Depperman

Dear Mike,

I am a new fan that just discovered your show. I watch the Discovery Channel all the time but wasn't sure I would like watching people get nasty. All it took was one show and now I am totally hooked! Your personality and humor make what would normally make me ill funny and wonderful to watch. That takes REAL talent. Now I gush over you enough to fill the mighty mississippi to anyone who will Listen. I hope to personally convert everyone I know into Fans.
Now to my question..You have said that you have done shows about jobs in all 50 states but which state have you done the most jobs in?
I am looking into several possiblities for more shows and will post later with some suggestions.
Until then thank you for actually taking the time to read all of these messages. Now if you would just be kind enough to e-mail a responce to my question to proshutterbug@hotmail.com. Thank You again...Keep up the dirty work!

OOPS...sorry, let me correct myself...it wasn't AC/DC it was Aerosmith off their Toys in the Attic album (remember albums/vinyl) lol I know it's neither here nor there, but I realized my mistake at 3:00 this morning when I woke up and couldn't get back to sleep and I knew my alarm would be going off in 2 short hours and of course the brain always kicks into high gear when it knows you should be sleeping....

Hi mike
i am a big fan of yours and i have been watching your show for about 2 years i think the worst dirty job that you have done is the on at the pig farm. That truck was pretty cool the way that he cooked it was very discusting and durty. Tell me if you need andy help finding durty jobs in Arizona because i can find you some. We usaly every year have a mud fest and all the kids get to play in the mud and that could be you dirty job fun time but not like a job more like a brake from those durty places so talk back to you.
