So, I'm back from my beloved annual beach vacation...and back to work in the A.M.
I have to say that I do love it down shore, where there's always a cool breeze and a salty tang on my lips. Sand between my toes and a tan on my face.
My shore point of preference has always been Wildwood Crest, NJ. I love the baby fine white sand on the amazingly wide beach and the way the ocean floor tilts ever so gently down, so that you can walk out seemingly forever before being up to your waist in the sea. I love riding a wave in, having the wind tossle my hair and the salty water stinging the little knicks on my legs (thank you, Venus razor ) I love the soothing sound of the ocean while I relax on a sundeck reading a book. I love the nights walking the "worlds most famous boardwalk" and the excursions into Cape May for breakfast at the Mad Batter. I love everything about being down shore...except coming home
So, MB, what is your favorite beach to cavort at?
~ Lisa *waiting impatiently for Labor Day weekend and another trip down shore*
Lisa, We seem to like Jersey beaches. I will be down between Point Pleasant and Seaside in a few weeks. So looking forward to the same things as you and a chocolate vanilla twisty cone with a chocolate dip. Used to spend every labor day at the shore as a kid and would celebrate my birthday there. Any dolphins? I also like Cape Cod and Bermuda. Janine
Lisa, I was just in Wildwood! I love it there, just a little crowded. Bus we have passes to the piers, so I just to make weekday visits.
Janine, while I was there we saw a family of Dolphins (is it a pod?) playing very close to shore. Its such an amazing thing to watch. I took a ton of pics, but only caught a dorsal in one shot! And you have to really look to see it, lol.
And we share taste a little bit. Choc/vanilla twist with choco Jimmys (sprinkles) is my favorite!!
I'm kind of in a sandwich between you guys. WW is south and Seaside heights is north of me. I live in Longport.
Lisa, you should try to come for a visit when you visit for labor day. I usually LEAVE my place on the holiday weekends. But I might make an exception :-) We can hit AC and I can show you Lucy!
If you guys are interested in pics, I can "un" private my myspace albums relating to this subject.
Ah, Wildwood Crest, NJ. Many childhood memories of summer come from there. Had my first kiss on that boardwalk.
Made many memories as a teenager, in Lavalette and after I was married and had children we made more memories in Long Beach Island.
These day's we are fortunate to have an Aunt who graciously let's us use her house in Cape Cod. We love it there, but I do miss the Jersey Shore, very much. I try to go down for the day, here and there, but it's not the same as walking along the beach each night and the beautiful sunset's. The sand is different too, and even though it is the same ocean as the Cape, Jersey's wave's k!ck bUtt!

The beaches get better the further south you go. I cant stand North Jersey beaches, From Barnegat Down beaches are amazing. But Northern/central and up totally loses beauty and charm. There are only a handful of decent beaches from NY up, that I have ever seen.
Plus, overall our weather is just better! And yes, our sand is softer and whiter and our waves have spunk!
I have spent many good times on Cape Cod, MA beaches and like all of them. I just got back from VA Beach and it was very nice, not too crowded and the water was very nice temp.
I have to say Long Island has some of the nicest beaches around. Toby Beach is my favorite. You have the bay on one side and the ocean on the other. It's one of the things I love about living here. You never have to go far to feel like you are on vacation.
You know, I'm gonna correct myself because its been about 2 years since I was way up the island and not in the NYC area. But I've been to fire Island and its pretty narrow. It was also very marshy and woodsy though.
I've been to the Hamptons 2-3 times with friends. But we were younger and just going to see who could spot more famous people, lol.
Hey Maks, I understood the "jimmys" reference. Is that an age thing or a tri state area thing? Any dolphin sightings count!
Howdy Pilgrim, I will be very close to Lavalette, I vacation in Ocean Beach, been doing so since I was a kid. Ever throw dry ice from the ice cream truck in the lagoon to watch it bubble and smoke? Have an uncle who lives in Truro, haven't been in a few years but love those sunsets too.
Maria, Does Jones beach count if you go see concerts? Going to see The Police, in a few weeks.
Hello Lisa plantwhisperer. (didn't want to leave you out, I mean that with no emotions whatsoever as per our new MB charter, I know you'll get that!)
I don't know about the Jimmys thing Janine. I just know I always called them that. I do here both quite often, but I'm not sure how many people I meet/hear are imports!
Funny note... I hear rainbow referred to as sprinkles all the time, and chocolate is usually jimmys!
Siesta Key, FL is a beautiful beach. White sand, clear warm waters of the Gulf. Absolutely beautiful.
Yes, whats best is the palmetto bugs (demon possessed pterodactyls), bizillions of wild crazy roosters and hurricanes, and Don't forget all the hurricanes. Oh and the hurricanes.

Janine,
My cousin's used to rent a house there every summer. I would visit them for a few day's. The street's were named after fish and birds. For some reason I think they were on Marlin. Small world. Have fun on your vacation.

Maks,
I don't recall any palmetto bugs while there. There were also no roosters (that's Key West and much further south. Siesta Key is near Sarasota FL). As far as hurricanes, there were none while I was there so I was happy. This is my favorite beach on the east coast of the U.S.
If we're talking outside the U.S., I'd have to say any of the beaches in Aruba or St. Thomas's Megan's Bay.
