Reality is defined as: the condition or quality of being real; actual exsistence. Something or someone that is real.
In this day and age it seems that this definiton needs to be redefined or that society has redefined it to fit what they believe reality should be. Nothing can be taken for what it appears anymore. Everything seems to be not as it is portryed. Sports aren't as they seem(drugs seem to be taking the place of true ability),"reality" T.V. is not really reality(it is tweaked in someway to make it more desireable to watch)and politics seems to be a popularity contest instead of what is right for our country. These are just a few of the examples that make life seem not so realistic. I am not very intellectual but thought that this would be a good thread for people to express their ideas on what "reality" meant for them. Hope everyone has a nice day!! Melissa P.S. This is just my opinion, I would like to hear what other people think even if it is not I believe to be true. Just would like to hear other peoples opinions!!
People have been trying to define reality since Plato's day.
We take in the world around us with our five senses. Our previous experiences allow our brain to process what it's taking in and interpret it accordingly. What we perceive as "real" depends on everything we have experienced in the past through our senses, and how our brain has taken it in.
Since we all have different experiences, we all perceive reality in different ways.
I like this question! I feel my head beginning to hurt again but I will give it a try.
It is too simplistic of me to say that reality is all about perspective? What is one person's reality may not be another's. Can "reality" truly be defind?
As for those so called "reality" shows. Forget about it. If I need a good dose of reality, I won't find it there. Pure "entertainment" for the most part. Mostly just really annoying. (Except for American Idol of course!)
Melissa, There is a theory that reality is an illusion. The world as we percieve it is actually only a complex construct of our minds...sound familiar.
I agree with justmejill, reality is unique to each of us and dependant on our experiences. That's what makes personal interaction so complicated.
