Hi Paddy It's really nice of you to ask about holiday. Its all about the Birthday of the United States. In The Declaration of Independence was signed in Philadelphia,Pa. It about a fledging country declaring itself free from overule by the British. It's a beautiful document written by Thomas Jefferson and signed by the 56 founding Fathers ;ie Future presidents and leaders -
How we celebrate is with picnics, parades and fireworks.Big and little towns sponser events ,
Lots of Hot dogs, hamburgers, snacks and patriotic desserts and other desserts.
Beer, wine, and Pepsi type drink and lemonade flow freely. I go to a block party where a couple neighboring streets on a block sponser a party'
there are games for the kid and adults to play alone and together. Sparklers , caps , snakes and tanks, are what I see locally that kids play with are safe fireworks. At night in Pittsburgh there are a group locally who do firworks nationally ,,Zambellis, so we have fireworks like crazy all over the sky. I have even flown on the 4th and saw them going off from above which is quite unique Basically the adults drink and talk and the kids play .
i got a bit carried away . But I am very proud of my Country.
Thanks! I spent most of the day flipping back and forth between 6 different marathons on TV and wondering why they always show marathons on holidays. In the evening my family got together at my cousin's house. The city she lives in has a fireworks display every year and you can see it from her backyard. We watched that, barbecued some hamburgers and hotdogs and had some drinks. I had two cosmopolitans, well actually one and a half I split one with my mom, and now I have a big headache.
I spent the day with immigrants (my family). I played Scrabble with my dad. I watched cops nonchalantly bike past the people setting off illegal fireworks (not us).
Fireworks. I love them. Since we live right by the Cougars stadium (Think Bowie Baysocks) we get treated to them for almost every home game so I'm spoiled. I love the big bang ones. We had cherry b0mbs as kids. Now, around here it has become more and more popular to light off quarter sticks.
I don't know how these are obtained, but they carry quite a punch. Last night around 10 PM someone set off something a few houses down that made the quarter sticks seem quiet.

This morning at 6:30, when my husband let the little dogs out...they were barking their heads off and I heard him trying to shush them. I yelled from upstairs...LET 'EM BARK!!!!! I hope that the neighbors who were setting off things that sounded like cannons firing at 2:00 this morning all have reeeeeeeeally bad headaches!
I don't even mind that they set off fireworks, really. But I had to work today and I didn't get much sleep. Plus they started last week and won't stop until sometime in August :-)
Fortunately, there are no 24 hour gun shops in this town.
