I just want to take a moment to tell you that ever since I started being a part of this message board I have made friends from all over the USA. Many good friends...
The common ground being someone who likes Mike Rowe and Dirty Jobs. We started chatting here and we have taken trips to get together and meet each other.
They were there from all over when Colt went to Iraq and there again this past spring. Wow all because of you.
Mudroomies are taking me in while I am making my way across the south or helping me is some way do this and know that these will be lasting friendship-in-Rowe.
Absolutely! I have made several really good friends here.I have met most of them in person. Some of whom I communicate with on a daily basis, via the computer or telephone. I have been visited by and even took a trip and got the stomach flu with one of the people I met here. Let me tell ya,after you have lain in a quarantined bed with someone, looking like death warmed over, and worshiped the porcelain throne together for a few days, you form a kind of special bond. There have also been a couple of recipients of my gift boxes of strange and useless cr@p. Lucky girls. Yes I know Terra! I will send you one!
Tina is one of the best people and I feel as if I have known Jorey forever. Maria and others have been there for me like family. These friendships will be a lifetime of dirty fun.
How's it going girl? Just back from Maine and couldn't wait to read of the road trip. FRIENDSHIPS? now come on, need I answer your question? I would give my right.....to be traveling with you. Just to meet all the folks that are here. I'm 'green' with envy to be traveling this trip. Just remember to "make" memories. Taking some time to absorbed all that this country offers...people, senery, food and drink. You know, the staples of life as the mudroom knows.
Tell me a couple thing of these travels. Have you seen some 'different' jobs that Mike hasn't seen yet? Do many people (other than friends here) know of "the great one"? How's that product doing?
I feel particularly close to the people I met who continue to be around. Even a few people who I haven't met. I spend time with than most of my family. As time goes on it just gets to be a stronger connection even if some are more virtual than others. I travel virtually a lot. I went to Hot Springs..and Chicago.. and on lots of Helicopter Trips. .. FFA conventiion watching that on line Mike speak 3 x and almost feeling like you could be there.
While I haven't met anyone from this board, I have met people from another board that I was on. I am still friends with one of them and talk to them now and then. When you meet, it's like you have known each other for ages. There is such a shared bond, that brings you together. It is so nice that many of you have met. Let's hope this board stays alive so many more of us can meet.
Oh He11 yeah! I've met 19-20 people from this board.
5 of us meet on a yearly basis. I talk to about 15 of them regularly.
After losing a friend of 20+ years just before joining this board in '06 it was great that I could gain so many good and close friends to replace that 1 friend.
And thanks to these friends I have had many doors open for me. And a few nice surprises that I would never had expected.
I cherish each and every one of these people for different reasons, and I love each and every one of them.
I, too, have formed many friendships here and have actually met over a dozen people. Several friends I have spent vacations with, and believe it or not, our conversations aren't always about what's-his-name! Even though DJ and Mike initially brought us together, we've formed close friendships based on our compatibility and shared interests. Oh, yeah...and our shared fondness for all things "dirty!"
Good thread Lisa. It's nice to be reminded of this every so often. And to remind what's his name that there is nothing faux about us!
I have been on vacations all over the country...places I would not have gone to if it were not for some diehards.
(Psssst, don't tell anyone but my Dad and that south paw from California have a thang for each other. We're planning trip #3!)
Eight, that's right, eight ladies in my home last spring all sharing one bathroom when the visit was to Chicago. It worked out just fine. This spring we descended on someone else's city.
I've been on 6 trips with diehards (or met up for a day) already this year. Last year was been much the same.
Mike, you should be proud! Why? Stand tall man, these are bragging rights. Which other celebrity can lay claim to a bunch of dirty diehards meeting up who knows where, doing who knows what.
I have been enjoying a nice e-mail exchange with Karen (beautifulgreeneyes) and I am still amazed by all the gorgeous fabrics she sent me for my church humanitarian quilts. Three boxes worth, including Halloween and Christmas selections! The ONLY (Only Only) reason I haven't been sewing with them like a madwoman is because I am currently finishing a cross-stitch project I promised to do for a friend in time to have it framed for her Dad for Christmas. I am finally seeing a little bit of light at the end of that particular tunnel, but in the meantime, Karen's fabrics taunt me from their boxes. All of those gorgeous colors and patterns wanting to come out and play! It's KILLING ME! AAAAAGH! I wanna SEW!!
But in the meantime, some of the pieces were large enough for the church quilting ladies to go ahead and turn into quilts as is. Here they are!
I had the lady in charge of the project take pictures of the girls on their Monday sewing day and I made Karen a big posterboard card with all the photos and had everyone sign it for her. It was fun to send it off to her and brighten her day.
And to think it all started with dirt!
Kim
Now if you'll all 'scuse me, I need to turn on some Mikey and haul out the embroidery hoop. Siiigh!
I haven't met anyone from the board, and I don't communicate with mudroomies outside of the Mud Room, but this is a place full of wonderful people where I always feel welcome.
It's like always being able to stop by a friend's house for a cuppa coffee and a few laughs!
Wow, some of you ladies are so lucky. I have not had the pleasure of meeting any of you. Meetings always seem to happen at least 2 hrs away. But as hard as it is for me to keep up with the board, I do consider many of you friends and would still love to meet someday. You are a charming and eclectic bunch. And even with our often extreme differences of opinion and personality, we all seem to hold it together nicely!
Thanks for this thread Lisa. I'm sure I will continue to enjoy everyone's stories :-)
