Geeper, I'm irreverant and sarcastic and a lot of people "don't get me" either - especially the people who represent the union at work that I belong to, NO ONE there has a sense of humor! Does you son have a good set of teeth like Mike has? My father was a dentist so I notice those things, in fact, one thing my dad often said if I watched a music video was "People don't smile much in these videos, do they?" No one where I work smiles much either. Nep

I was so excited about the teeth comment I forgot about the other comment I was going to make.

Layna, your son is unique and beautiful. My son was like that and still is but the rough edges are softening. I hope to see your son in the theater someday!

geeper: I assume you realize that you've just given the classical description of a gifted person, right? I'm working right now on a long-term community development project with a small gift of gifted high school students, and I've also done lots of work with other people who've been classified as "gifted" (whatever that may mean). They're a joy to work with, but definitely a challenge because of the very things that you've described. Of course, much of the joy is a direct result of the challenge and of the behavior itself. Like your son, they tend to be very funny.

On topic: Ummm... Mike is very irreverent and sarcastic, and also very skilled at double entendre. Quite gifted, in my professional opinion. And I guess some people probably don't "get" Dirty Jobs, but this teacher (well, former teacher) finds it hilarious and, I might add, surprisingly educational.

That's usually the problem with "gifted" people isn't it? I think as a teacher it would almost be more difficult to work with gifted children than with learning disabled ones. Having been in a gifted classroom, (we didn't call it that when I was in school it was accellerated then) I know how hard it must have been for the teacher keeping us occupied, let alone challenged.

on topic: I think Mike's teachers would have had a hard time keeping him challenged as well. What about it Mike, were you labeled as "difficult?"

Cozimari:
My father was a dentist at the Veterans Administration and one of my sisters is a also a dentist part time. My younger sister is a dental hygienist. I have done some contruction work on a dental office. So you see, I notice when people don't smile! Mike does! Now the people where I work, especially the management, none of them smile much. Is business administration that bad?

Geeper, tomorrow night we have choir practice again and just got back from another 3 hour rehearsal on Sunday. I was next to the tenors and now I can't make up my mind if I'm a tenor or a bass. So Mike, since you're the expert what should I do? Nep

Okay, my son does have good teeth, no cavities, all straight thanks to a very good orthodontist. I am glad he got my genes. I too have no cavities, never have had, and straight teeth, orthodontist also. I used to compete in baton and dance and usually got great comments on my teeth, in fact, I even won an award for the "best smile". too funny
